Summary

Description
English: Allophane
Locality: Graphic Mine (Graphic shaft; Waldo-Graphic mine; Waldo Tunnel), Magdalena District, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA
Size: 8.6 x 6.6 x 4.6 cm.
A beautiful, intense blue specimen of the rare aluminum-bearing silicate allophane. It has a waxy and vitreous lustre to it that is different than the similar-appearing chrysocolla (copper-containing). I had not seen this mineral from the Kelly Mine, but I am very much inclined to trust Al's judgment and labeling. The man was field-collecting since before my parents were born, and he has been all over the place building his large reference collection. Collected from the Graphic Tunnel. Ex. Al Ordway Collection.
