Notes
English: Alexander I is depicted in the cavalry uniform of the Russian Imperial Guard. The portrait was carried out – along with another version, depicting the Emperor in his coronation mantle – in Gérard's studio during the emperor's stay in Paris 1814. The sitter made several visits to the artist, but the portraits were not completed until some years later, in 1817. It is known that the two portraits originally hung in the foyer of the Hermitage Theatre.
