• I am aware of Getty Images offering a rights-managed copy of this photo. The photo is credited to Mondadori and is said to have been taken December 31, 1961.

• A check of original copyright registrations in both artwork and film for the year 1961 turns of no listing for Batman in either category. Checking the same categories for 1962 also produced no results. The only results for "Batman" in those two years are in periodicals--for the comic books.

• The series premiered on television on January 12, 1966. Adam West had the role of Batman and the series aired originally on ABC-TV from 1966-1968. It's doubtful that 20th Century Fox-Greenway Productions would have recorded this television series about 5 years prior to its being aired on television. holding the recorded episodes and stills for that period of time.

• There are no original copyright registrations for anything connected with "Batman" for the years 1961 and 1962 other than the copyrights for the comic books mentioned above. The ABC-TV photo is dated February 18, 1966, just a few weeks after the show went on the air for the first time, and has no copyright marks-front or back-on it. Getty may manage the copy of the photo shown on their website, but the image itself is in the public domain due to lack of original copyright prior to 1978.
