Article

Leydig cell hypoplasia

Portion used

A single image.

Low resolution?

Yes. Image is significantly smaller than the original from the book. About 50% or something like that.

Purpose of use

The article is about a rare medical condition in which may be difficult to visualize the symptoms of. This image would help considerably with that, especially for laymen who may not understand some of the fairly technical medical terminology used in the article.

Replaceable?

Leydig cell hypoplasia is a very rare condition in which fewer than 10,000 people in the world are thought to have. Even fewer people have the complete form of this condition which results in full phenotypical feminization. This was the only image I was able to find of a patient with the full form of the condition after a little while of searching. It may be possible to find a non-free alternative, but not without great difficulty I would imagine.

Other information

A preview of this book with the image in question contained was made freely available online at Google Books. In other words, it is not behind any sort of pay wall, unlike many other publications of its sort, and this image in particular can be readily viewed at the URL included above. Hence, it is my opinion that its use here on Wikipedia would be unlikely to generate a complaint from the publisher regarding copyright. Furthermore, the publisher does not actually hold the copyright themselves, and was given permission to use the image by a researcher.
