Реальный мост из Майами в Мексиканский залив по цепи мелких островов в Ки-Уэст. Вообще все усилия [в мостостроении] направлены в сторону использования материала и самой природы. Лучшим и красноречивым доказательством является американская линия, законченная в 1912 г. и носящая заголовок: «Из Нью-Йорка на остров Кубу без пересадки!»
Взгляните на прилагаемую карту (рис. 16). Из Нью-Iорка вас мчит экспресс в городок Миами на оконечность Флориды; отсюда поезд выходит - прямо в море! От Флориды на запад тянется цепь коралловых островков; крайний из них - Кей-Вест - служит теперь модным курортом миллиардеров. Один из них, недавно умерший "масляный король" Феглер, задумал и осуществил постройку железной дороги по морю. Из Миами (рис. 15) в Кей-Вест 248 километр., из них 70 километр. проходят по 47 островкам, а остальные 178 километров по морю.
Это грандиозное предприятие было выполнено замечательно быстро и изящно. Строителям "моста" (на самом деле, ряда мостов) пришлось учитывать высоту волн, глубину моря, силу ветра, характер и влияние течений...
Нередко штормы причиняли крупные повреждения: то уносились массы материала в море, то терпели аварии суда, на которых имели постоянное пребывание рабочие. Кроме того, условия пароходства не позволяли воздвигать постоянный барьер, отделяющий Атлантический океан от Мексиканского залива; поэтому три моста устроены подъёмные. В январе 1912 года первый экспресс помчался по волнам (рис. 14), насмехаясь над штормом и аллигаторами, населяющими эти воды...
Из Кей-Веста поезд въезжает на пароход и достигает Гаванны, столицы о. Кубы, лежащаго в 140 верстах к югу. Итак, весь путь из Нью-Iорка на Кубу можно свершить, не выходя из вагона...

  • in the case of other works if the author is a national of a country of the Union¹, the country of origin shall be that country.

¹ - Author who is not a national of a country of the Union but who has his habitual residence in a country of the Union, be assimilated to national of that country.

The exclusive rights to this work do not extend on territory of the Russian Federation according to article 1256 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (details), because this work does not meet the requirements on the territory of publication, on the author's nationality, and on obligations for international treaties.
