Title
Élévation, et vue à vol d'oiseau du palais de l'Exposition universelle, aux Champs-Elysées
Description
The Palais de l'industrie was built by the architects Jean-Marie-Victor Viel and Alexandre Barrault, for the Great exhibit of 1855. It was much criticized at the time of its construction, because of its massive size and proportions. Napoleon III had it built to surpass the Crystal Palace of London's Great Exhibit. The palais was eventually destroyed in 1897, to allow for the erection of the Grand palais, which housed part of the Great exhibit in 1900.
