Route descriptionEdit

FM 526 begins at an interchange with I-10 in Houston, Harris County, heading northwest on Federal Road, a six-lane divided highway. The road passes businesses, becoming a five-lane road with a center left-turn lane and curving north to become Maxey Road. The highway through a mix of residential and commercial areas along with some woods. FM 526 reaches an interchange with the US 90 freeway, where it merges into the frontage roads of that highway. The highway continues to run northeast along the US 90 frontage roads, carrying two lanes in each direction and heading through wooded areas with some homes. FM 526 splits from US 90 by heading north on South Lake Houston Parkway, a five-lane road with a center left-turn lane, passing through residential areas before passing fields. FM 526 turns northwest and heads through commercial areas, ending at US 90 Business.[1][2][3]

FM 526 was first designated on June 21, 1945, running from Market Street Road north to US 90 (now US 90 Business). On November 19, 1952, the southern portion of FM 526 was relocated to Federal Road, ending at SH 73. On September 18, 1961, the northern terminus was relocated to a new alignment of US 90, replacing FM 2613. FM 526 officially became UR 526 on June 27, 1995.[1]
