Spencer Roane Atkinson (November 1, 1851 – September 5, 1920)[1] was a justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia from 1894 to 1897.
Born in Camden County, Georgia to Alexander Smith Atkinson and Mary Ann McDonald.
He was an at-large delegate to the 1884 Democratic National Convention, which nominated Grover Cleveland for president.[1]
Atkinson served as judge of the Superior Courts of the Brunswick Circuit, from which position he resigned in 1892.[2] In September 1893, it was reported that "Judge S. R. Atkinson, H. F. Dunwoody and Sam C. Atkinson have formed a partnership in the practice of law", with the report stating that the three were "well known over the state and are lawyers of ability".[3]
He later served on Georgia's Board of Railroad Commissioners.[1][4]
Atkinson married Mary Virginia Harrison. He died at his home in Atlanta at the age of 58.[1]
