His Royal Majesty Alayeluwa Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle MFR is the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland. He currently sits as the Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas.

Early Life and Education

Born on Sunday, December 4, 1966, he began his education in 1972 at Methodist Primary School in Oshodi, Lagos. In 1979, he and his twin brother became among the first students at Anglican Grammar School in Ilaro, Ogun State. He also attended Eko Boys' High School in Mushin, Lagos, Nigeria.[1]

Oba Kehinde Olugbenle was admitted to Yaba College of Technology in Lagos to study Estate Management, graduating in 1990 as one of the top students in his class. He earned his M.Sc. degree in Housing Development and Management from the University of Ibadan in 2006. For his National Youth Service Corps, he served at United Bank for Africa Plc Property Division from 1990 to 1991. Afterward, he joined P.K. OJO & Co. (Estate Surveyors and Valuers) as an Estate Surveyor. In 1994, Oba Olugbenle joined AKIN OLAWORE & CO., one of the leading estate firms, and advanced to become the firm's Managing Partner in 1998.

Ascension

Oba Kehinde Olugbenle ascended to the royal throne of his forefathers on April 14, 2012. He was presented the Staff and Instrument of Office as the Olu Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland by Governor Ibikunle Amosun (FCA) four years after the demise of Oba Samuel Adekanmbi Tella II. Oba Olugbenle described his ascension as God's "plan and purpose" for his life.[2]

Awards and Honours

In 2012, HRM Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle was honored with the national award of Member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR) by President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR.

On January 31, 2020, Oba Olugbenle was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) degree by Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State. He has also been conferred with an honorary Doctor of Science degree by Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN); a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV); a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM); a member of the International Facilities Management Association of Nigeria; and a member of the African Real Estate Society, among other affiliations.
