The Deraniyagala Polling Division has a Sinhalese majority (79.8%) and a significant Indian Tamil population (13.3%) . In comparison, the Kegalle Electoral District (which contains the Deraniyagala Polling Division) has a Sinhalese majority (85.5%) [1]
