Danny Desmond Makkelie (born 28 January 1983) is a Dutch football referee. He has been a FIFA listed referee since 2011 and took charge of the final of the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship as a UEFA Elite referee.[1]

A former police officer in South Holland, he has worked full time for the Royal Dutch Football Association since 2010. He was selected to take part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup as a video assistant referee, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final

He made the controversial call as the Video Assistant Referee to retake the PK in the 2019 Women’s World Cup for both France-Nigeria Match and the Jamaica-Italy Match.[1] [2]
