HistoryEdit

A post office has been in operation at Box Springs since 1853.[4] The community was named for the boxes which railroad agents placed into a nearby spring in order to collect water for passing steam trains.[5]

The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place as the "Town of Box Springs" in 1913.[6] The town's charter was dissolved in 1931.[5]
