American Samoa House of Representatives

The American Samoa House of Representatives is the lower house of the American Samoa Fono. The House consists of 21 representatives serving two-year terms, with 20 popularly elected members, and one representative elected by a public meeting on Swains Island.

The first lesson of the Legislature was called to order by Attorney General Moroney at 9:30 am on October 26, 1948. Tuiasosopo was unanimously elected as speaker of the House of Representatives. It consisted of 18 members elected by secret ballot to represent their traditional county. Alataua had two members as it included two counties: Fofo and Alataua. Non-matai voters elected two members, and Swains Island elected one. Members served for two years.[1]

General elections are held every two years to elect members of the American Samoa House of Representatives.[2]
