Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area

The Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area (臺灣地區與大陸地區人民關係條例) is the highest law of Taiwan to guide the cross-Strait relations.[1] The act is enacted in accordance with Article 10 of the Additional Articles of the Constitution of the Republic of China promulgated on May 1, 1991. The act focuses on the relations between the peoples cross the Taiwan Strait and avoid mentioning the term "People's Republic of China" and its governmental organizations.

The main purpose of the act is to protect the security and welfare of the people in Taiwan.[2]
