Elections to Manchester City Council were held on Thursday, 10 May 1951. One third of the councillors seats were up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a three-year term of office. The Conservative Party retained overall control of the council.^[1]^[2]

Caused by the death on 29 July 1951 of Alderman William Somerville (Conservative, elected as an alderman by the council on 2 February 1949).^[3]^[4]

In his place, Councillor Tom Larrad (Labour, St. Mark's, elected 17 January 1933)^[5] was elected as an alderman by the council on 5 September 1951.^[6]
