English: Abraham Ortelius' second map of Flanders, from the 1584 Latin edition of his Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first modern atlas of the world.
The map has a decorative strapwork egg-shaped border. It is embellished with a compass rose, sailing ships, sea monsters, a seated woman holding grain and a coat of arms with the Flemish lion. The map is based on Gerard Mercator's map of Flanders of 1540.
Nederlands: Abraham Ortelius' tweede kaart van Vlaanderen, uit de Latijnse editie uit 1584 van zijn Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, de eerste moderne atlas ter wereld.
De kaart heeft een decoratieve eivormige rand met bandwerk. Het is versierd met een windroos, zeilschepen, zeemonsters, een zittende vrouw die graan vasthoudt en een wapen met de Vlaamse leeuw. De kaart is gebaseerd op de kaart van Gerard Mercator van Vlaanderen uit 1540.
Français : Deuxième carte de la Flandre d'Abraham Ortelius, tirée de l'édition latine de 1584 de son Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, le premier atlas moderne du monde.
