Williamstown North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 7 km south-west of Melbourne's central business district. Its local government area is the City of Hobsons Bay. At the 2011 Census, Williamstown North had a population of 1,544.
The suburb is bounded to the north by the Geelong railway line, to the west by the Altona branch of the Werribee railway line, to the east by Champion Road and to the south by Kororoit Creek Road.
Williamstown North is home to the Australian Railway Historical Society operated railway museum, located on Champion Road, at the south-east corner of the Newport Workshops. It is a short walk from the North Williamstown railway station. The Railway Museum has on display the largest collection of Victorian Railways steam locomotives. Other equipment on display includes electric locomotives, suburban and country passenger carriages, guards vans and a selection of freight wagons.
History
Williamstown North Post Office opened on 1 April 1878 and closed in 1980.[2]
