Infoboxes edit

Isn't the documentation of {{Infobox NBA Player}} sufficient? If not, shouldn't the additional details go to the template documentation? —LOL T/C 04:03, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. It is kind of redundant, but there is some layout issues with the infobox use that should be noted here. What do you think?—Chris! ct 04:33, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Maybe I can transfer info to Template:Infobox NBA Player/doc and transclude it here.—Chris! ct 04:35, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I was thinking about either a link or a transclusion, so I think this is fine. —LOL T/C 05:40, 7 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Expansion edit

I'll be adding quite a bit of stuff here in the next few days. Dabomb87 (talk) 19:17, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank, you made it a lot better.—Chris! ct 22:22, 8 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think it would also be a good idea to list good, reliable sources for articles, e.g., Basketball-Reference. Dabomb87 (talk) 01:53, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sure—Chris! ct 20:37, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed rename edit

A manual of style is generally a guide to writing, and well, style. This page seems to be a WikiProject structural and formatting guideline, it is not really describing how to write names or format numbers or any of that. I propose that we rename to Wikipedia:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Article guidelines or something similar, a la Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Structure. Dabomb87 (talk) 02:05, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Noble Story (talkcontributions) 03:46, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok—Chris! ct 03:49, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Since this is an uncontroversial page, and everyone who has significantly contributed to the page has supported this action, I will move the page. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:47, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Including BAA seasons for NBA teams edit

Los Angeles Lakers seasons does not include the years spent in the NBL.The list for the New York Knicks doesn't include seasons in the BAA. When asked about it at the LA FLC, User:K._Annoyomous24 said "I didn't include the NBL side as both of the featured lists (here and here) don't show it because I can't find the references to do so. I want the lists to be consistent. If you want me to add it on, and if other users also want it added on, I will do so." The matter wasn't mentioned again.

It should be noted that BBR does not have any records of the NBL, although it does for the BAA. As such, do you think that these seasons should be included? I am inclining towards a yes, where adequate references permit, because those seasons are part of the franchise history, plain and simple. Any other thoughts? Noble Story (talkcontributions) 08:31, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree that we should include the BAA record.—Chris! ct 20:37, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Is there a reliable source from which we can find this info? Dabomb87 (talk) 17:05, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, basketball-reference.com (BBR)—Chris! ct 19:47, 20 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

LA or L.A. edit

Do we have a preference over the periods? I see that #NBA Statistics shows "L.A. Lakers" (emphasis added), but I think that's because I used periods when I generated the player statistics, instead of a rational decision made to use them. —LOL T/C 00:39, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I prefer L.A. b/c it is more formal.—Chris! ct 01:40, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ditto. Noble Story (talkcontributions) 01:41, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

D-League info in player infoboxes edit

Does any of it belong? —LOL T/C 03:50, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think so.—Chris! ct 05:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Highlights in infobox edit

  FYI

There was a discussion on the preferred order of highlights in the infobox at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Archive_20#Order_of_NBA-specific_highlights.—Bagumba (talk) 16:27, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've tweaked articles slightly from the previous discussion. It seems to make more sense to have NBA Defensive Player of the Year listed before NBA All-Defense—it's the top defensive honor, and it groups the two defensive honors together.—Bagumba (talk) 08:34, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

All-time leader accomplishments included in infobox? edit

There has been a general conflict, most notably User:Sabbatino , of whether to include all-time leader accomplishments in the infobox, such as franchise all-time leading scorer (Ex: Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers all-time leading scorer) as well as others including all-time blocks leader (Olajuwon), all-time leading scorer (Kareem), etc. All of these types of accomplishments were included in the infobox until a couple of days ago when Sabbatino took all of them down citing this WikiProject page, so I'm just trying to get some clarity as to what the general consensus agrees on. I am on the side of that we should include it, due to it being a huge accomplishment to be a franchise or NBA leading career scorer, and for the fact that not many players will have that honor.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jstrokos (talkcontribs) 15:08, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Jstrokos: There was a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association#All-time_leader_in_.5Binsert_statistic.5D, where the consensus was that franchise stats achievements should be listed in prose, not in the infobox.—Bagumba (talk) 08:26, 3 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

New Award Additions edit

Hi, was wondering if the NBA highlights table for players can be updated to include the following individual NBA awards:

Additionally, can I check if seasonal titles such as NBA season 3-point scoring leader, NBA season free throw percentage leader, NBA season 3-point percentage leader, and NBA season minutes leader could be included in the highlights table as well? Beemer03 (talk) 17:03, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Genrally, we should be looking to tighten infoboxes, not expanding them further. Per MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE:

The less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance.

Those awards aren't among those actively being predicted.[1] Nor are those stats often prominently listed as highlights in sources.[2]Bagumba (talk) 15:31, 21 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
