March 1, 2006 – March 4, 2006

• To-do list item finished: Merge Kangsi into Hopping corpse? I only did a cut-and-paste merger, with minimal clean-up, so Hopping corpse could use some attention. Also, should we leave the Kangsi redirect page in the Japanese mythology category that it is currently in? MikeDockery 08:23, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

March 5, 2006 – March 12, 2006

• All entries in Category:Japanese mythology converted to the new stub as needed. Articles in its subcategories still need to be converted. MikeDockery 06:27, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
• Added a new secondary source, Yokai World. Be aware its primary function is to entertain (and showcase the creator's art) than to inform, so take a grain of salt with it. Also, it's in Japanese, so if need be, you may have to babelfish it - and watch out for bad mechanical translations.--み使い Mitsukai 01:38, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
• Split Nekomusume off from Catgirl so we can talk about the mythological aspects of the creature. There's a listing for a {{citation needed}} there; I put that there myself so I can dig up the info when I get home (I'm at work atm). • {{Japan-myth-stub}} is live! I went ahead and used the oni netsuke image, as it had the least amount of opposition (there was never much consensus on any one image). This is easily changed, however, so don't shy from voting for it to be replaced. — Amcaja 17:26, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
• Hidatori has been marked as a possible hoax, and the article has been edited to reflect that opinion. The article text is basically useless in its current form ("Some people think..., but that's not true"). Needs to be either cleaned up or deleted. MikeDockery 06:30, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
• I've finally finished delving through the Japan category at Commons tagging everything related to folklore or mythology. Editors might be interested in browsing the folklore and mythology categories to find images worth adding to relevant articles. — Amcaja 04:03, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
• Doubts have been raised about the validity of the information on this website: Youkaimura (see Talk:Kamaitachi). The accuracy of the information on this site should be verified before using it as a source. Also, any articles which use only this site as a source need to be rewritten using multiple sources. • Suguri F, a Japanese user, has questioned the validity of Soukou. He/she suspects it's from anime or games but not from real mythology. Anyone able to do a Google.jp search on this? — Amcaja 15:46, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
  • I asked some of my fellow teachers about this - the best they could come up with was Hō-ō (鳳凰), which is a creature somewhat similar to the discription given in the Soukou article. It's connection to Mt. Fuji is tenuous; It can appear suddenly in sacred places, so an appearance on Mt. Fuji (which is sacred) wouldn't be unexpected (in mythology, of course), but it isn't said to "live" there. They checked the web and dictionaries and couldn't come up with anything regarding "Soukou". Likely something from a game (per Mitsukai's explaination on the talk page), but most likely not from Japanese mythology. MikeDockery 01:55, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
