Welcome to the Southeast Asian cinema task force of WikiProject Film!

Scope edit

The Southeast Asian cinema task force is a joint task force of WikiProject Films and WikiProject Southeast Asia for the purpose of gathering interested editors in the common purpose of improving Wikipedia coverage of the Southeast Asian cinema and raising the quality of already-existing articles.

Film industries covered include:

Southeast Asia also encompasses Brunei, East Timor and Laos, and though those countries do not yet have "cinema of" articles, there are likely to be at least a few films being produced in those places.

Southeast Asian cinema may include not only domestic films, but also films made by Southeast Asian filmmakers outside of the region, films produced or co-produced by Southeast Asian companies, and foreign films shooting within Southeast Asia.

Conventions edit

Article parts edit

Articles about films from Southeast Asia on English Wikipedia often lack basic details about the plot, the director, screenwriter, cinematographer and other crew, as well as the main actors. This is due to systemic bias, which has resulted in a scarcity of references, English-language and otherwise, about films from Southeast Asian countries, especially older films. A look at some of the existing articles about the region's cinema, though, will point editors in directions where they can find the information. Details are a little more forthcoming if the film has been exhibited at film festivals, and as it works out, these are the films that are most notable anyway.

Images edit

On film articles, an image of the original, native-language theatrical poster is most desired. A consensus seems to be emerging that more than one image on film articles is probably too many, so conservatism is the watchword, at least on Stub- and Start-class articles. Once a film article has been more developed, for Good Article class and above, then we can think about adding more images. In short, develop the written content first, and worry about images later.

External links edit

At this point, just about anything, in any language, is helpful, but there are limits - fansites and personal blogs for example would be discouraged.
