Shavian images edit

Various very old orphaned images which were apparently part of an old conversion. None have copyright status or history. They didn't even have "articles" until I created them now. They're apparently for use in the Shavian alphabet article but currently only a few other images are used there. Perhaps these were all replaced by new Unicode characters? Strong keep - is this a bad joke? It specifically allows says the material is without restriction and The only condition is that any reproduction or broadcasting of the website’s materials contain a reference to the original source. As for the commercial part, it says All materials on the Presidential website may be reproduced in any media outlets... (equally covering) newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV channels and Internet sites - that's pretty obviously commercial. Comment, frankly, because the person who closed that discussion is apparently a master of wikilawyering, not of copyright law (I note that nearly everyone called for keep, including the other admins and Russian speakers). It's like saying, "I allow you to read any part of that journal, including such articles as the 1, 2, or 3", and then you refuse to read page 4 because I didn't specfically mention it. Except that it is specfically mentioned - the previous several listings were just examples of what is allowed. And, finally, and most importantly, the same discussion was held on the English Wikipedia (a different licensing scheme), with the outcome as keep: [4]. You might make some good points, but I don't think Template:CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat is necessarily a good comparison, these are the Russian government websites if they put any restrictions on the images, it should be noted when it is used here, also if it is kept here then the kremlin.ru images should be allowed on wikipedia commons again as well. Don´t delete! It´s a clear photo that gives a good overview of the terrain on wich Live Earth Rio de Janeiro was held. It´s not promotional. It doens´t promote anything, it just shows what is discribed in the text. And it´s contribution is that it gives a better idea of the site than the description in the text. And I don´t know why you have a problem with the source, it´s obvious Copacabana I can confirm that and it was a free concert where everybody took pictures, so it seems hard to me that there is a problem with the copyright.

In addition I like to add that I think Wikipedia should include more pictures. Not to much of course, but 1 picture can give people a much better idea of things in a lot of articles. Sometimes a picture can say more than a thousand words! You are a internetencyclopidia, it seems a shame not to use the advantages the internet gives you above normal encyclopedia. Like unlimited space and the possibility to easily add pictures or even short movies. Of course this should contribute to the article. But 1 or 2 pictures in a article makes the information in many cases much more lively and clear, and seems hardly distracting to me. (koenoostrom@hotmail.com)

Well, I'm not well versed in the copyright legal stuff but going by the 10 criteria I thought this was fulfiling all 10 of them. I'm not going to list them and waste both our time. Yet, this is a picture that I took and posted and it didn't come from no other place. Furthermore, if you want to show what a ticket looks like, I can hardly think of another way of doing that. After all, if I was bent on infringement I would scan it in a way that also conceals the IR strips in the middle and exposes the 12 different security features of the tickets itself. But this wasn't the intention. Just a plain piccie so that folk know what it looks like.

In conclusion, although I disagree with your point, it is rather obvious by your extensive talk pages that arguing with an administrator is pretty pointless so I, for one, won't indulge. Do what you fancy with it Ssoulakiotis 11:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the image to be justified, I think you'd need to be able to show discussion e.g. of some element about the ticket's design that was relevant to the forgery, or something that made the ticket the story. Remove from Gabrielle Drake - should not be used as primary illustration of the actress. As for UFO (TV series), IMO a publicity shot or screenshot showing a group of the cast would be more appropriate. I can't see anything in the article to suggest to me that out of all the cast, this one is the most important to show.
