Original – Garter snakes are Colubrid snakes common across North America, ranging from Alaska and Canada to Central America. This shows the Coast Garter Snake, Thamnophis elegans terrestris, a subspecies of the Western Terrestrial Garter Snake. Its subspecies designation, terrestris, means earthy.

Reason: We have a shortage of good snake images on Wikipedia. This is one of the really nice ones, taken in the wild.
