Company history
Virtual Internet (VI) was launched in 1996 as a solutions provider for high availability managed IT hosting. Virtual Internet was the first web host to deliver both Xen and VMware (private and public) cloud servers to the UK enterprise market.[1]
In October 2000, Virtual Internet became the first public UK company to gain ICANN accreditation. VI also gained notoriety when it introduced "secure" shared hosting packages, which addressed the security and resilience needs of small business websites.[2]
In 2009, Virtual Internet was acquired by UK2 Group. The group operates its services out of several multi-million pound data centres in the UK and US.[3]
In 2011 Virtual Internet achieved VMware Enterprise Partner status and went on to become a vCloud Powered provider. In the same year, the company also became an ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified web host.[4] They also launched their US operation in Lindon, Utah at the beginning of the year.
In 2012, the company was selected to deliver Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies to UK public sector organisations as part of UK Government's G-Cloud Framework.
