VidCon is the largest industry conference and fan extravaganza for online video in the world. [5][6][7] Organized by Hank Green and John Green of the Vlogbrothers YouTube channel, VidCon is the largest gathering of the online video viewers, creators, and industry representatives worldwide, drawing thousands of attendees representing billions of online video views.[8]
History
The first VidCon was held in 2010 on July 9, 10 and 11 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles and sold out in advance[9] with over 1,400 people attending.[10] Thursday featured an industry day with panels and presentations by industry leaders and video creators. Friday and Saturday featured main stage presentations by YouTube's most viewed content creators, breakout sessions and nightly concerts featuring musicians who achieved success primarily by presenting their music via online video.[11]
VidCon 2011 was held on July 29 and 30, with an industry conference day on July 28, again at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles. The event sold out sixty days prior to its opening.[12] 2,500 video creators, viewers and industry representatives attended the conference and celebrations.[13][14]
VidCon 2012, the third annual conference, was held at the Anaheim Convention Center on June 28-30, 2012.[15] The new venue offered a much larger capacity with room for future expansion. 7,000 video creators, viewers and industry representatives attended the conference and celebrations.[16][17]
VidCon 2013 will be held on August 1 through 3 at the Anaheim Convention Center with attendance expected to top 10,000.[18] Among the online video celebrities expected to be on hand for panel sessions, concerts and personal meet-ups are: Charlie McDonnell, Dave Days, Hank and John Green, iJustine, Jenna Marbles, Phil DeFranco, Rhett and Link, Shane Dawson, Shay Carl, Dane Boedigheimer (“The Annoying Orange”), Toby Turner, The Fine Brothers, Smosh and dozens of others. YouTube signed a deal in 2013 to become the principle sponsor of VidCon for two years.[19]
