Varun Thapar( Hindi:वरुण थापर, Gurmukhi:ਵਾਰੁਨ ਥਪਰ੍ ) is an Indian entrepreneur and Director of KCT Coal Sales, a company formed by the diversification of the Thapar Group.[1]

Varun Thapar is an Indian business baron and Executive Director of Karam Chand Thapar & Bros. (Coal Sales)and Director of Indicon Logistics.He is the great grandson of Karam Chand Thapar,founder of Thapar Group of companies.His grandfather,Mr Inder Mohan Thapar is the Chairman and Managing Director whereas his father Mr. Vikram M. Thapar is the Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Karam Chand Thapar & Bros.(Coal Sales).

Varun Thapar belongs to the fourth generation of the business family founded by his great grandfather Karam Chand Thapar,in Kolkata. His great grandfather Karam Chand Thapar (1900–1963) was the founder of the Thapar Group of companies.During his childhood,he attended school in New Delhi and resided with his grandparents.[2]

Personal life

Varun was born to a Punjabi speaking family. Varun was schooled at Modern School, Delhi and completed his graduation from Brown University where he double majored in European history and economics.[3] After graduation, he spent a year working for The Exeter Group in New Orleans, implementing Enterprise resource planning systems in higher education institutes.[4]
