Žganci

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Žganci, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Please see [1] for a similar situation. You never bothered to explain or justify why you removed the fact that he was born in Slovenia, which was a constituent republic within Yugoslavia back then (and thus violated a long-time Wikipedia practice for people born in Slovenia between 1945 and 1991). But keep it your way, for all I care. I'm wasting my time fighting these edit wars with people who obviously have ulterior agendas. What will you people do for fun once we start getting prominent athletes born after 1991? WorldWide Update 09:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Nicolas Sarkozy and Union for French Democracy

In the French context, UDF is definitely more tilted to the right (UMP) than to the left (PS). 22 out of 29 of the UDF MPs officially support Sarkozy. 50% of the UDF 1st round voters are expected to vote for Sarkozy against 30% for Royal, etc. I therefore think that it is fair to follow the mainstream French conception and label UDF as "center-right" (with all the limitations of this one-dimensional approach). --Eric Pichon 12:41, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I see your point and you're probably right. However, considering that Sarkozy is expected to obtain the support of the mojority of the French electorate tonight, I'm not positive that the fact that most UDF voters support him is proof positive that they really are center-right voters. In other words, if most of France supports him, wouldn't you expect most of the true center (and not just the center-right) to support him as well? WorldWide Update 16:12, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Anže Kopitar

Hi, I'd like to invite all interested parties to participate in the RfC on how should the birth place of the Slovene hockey player Anže Kopitar be stated. Currently it says "born in Jesenice, Yugoslavia, now Slovenia". I think this is unclear and should be rectified. It makes it seem like Jesenice was previously not part of Slovenia or like Slovenia did not exist at that time, nothing of which makes sense. The phrasing "born in Jesenice, Slovenia, Yugoslavia" leaves no doubt. --Eleassar ^{my talk} 08:30, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

WP:AGF and WP:NPA reminder

Hi WWU. I just noticed this message you left on another users talk page. Accusing another user of lying implies failure to assume good faith and constitutes a personal attack, and thus violates two important policies of Wikipedia. I'm very certain that Orangemarlin did not intend to denigrate or deny the existence of any country, but rather that he pointed out that Slovenia did not exist as an independent country. The context is fairly clear. This may be a hot button issue with you. But this should be one more reason to refrain from short-tempered comments. Hi WWU. I find it quite plausible that the "as a state" part is elided and assumed to be implied by the context, as we nearly always give the state as it existed at the time of the birth (see e.g. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (who was born in "the capital of the sovereign Archbishopric of Salzburg", or Nicolaus Copernicus, who was born in Royal Prussia, or, more recently, Václav Havel, who was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia). Assuming this is the GF part. Consider some less loaded examples: "It's not raining" is nearly always false (unless you mentally add the implied "here"), "it's 12:00" is nearly always wrong unless you accept the implicit tolerance of a few minutes, and so on. Still, no-one would usually consider someone who uses these expressions as lying. --Stephan Schulz (talk) 11:36, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Stephan, by this logic, I can safely say that "Bavaria doesn't exist" because, as you imply, the words "as an independent state" are assumed. Sorry, but I just cannot accept this line of reasoning. --WorldWide Update (talk) 13:24, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

(edit conflict)You miss the "in the proper context" part. Quebec cannot be used to refer to a recently formed state, because there was no such change in it status. Bavaria can refer to the defunct Kingdom of Bavaria, but that use is extremely rare. Slovenia, on the other hand, can and does refer to different things, one of which did indeed not exist at the time in question. However, this misses the point. The question is not if this is correct usage or not, the question is if it is a plausible interpretation. If yes (and I assert that the answer is yes), it is almost always more productive to not assume malice, but the most reasonable interpretation. --Stephan Schulz (talk) 13:40, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

But you still haven't answered what is this [3] (article in Globus) and this [4] (news report from Nova TV).
Unfortunately, discussion (about deletion of article Greater Slovenia) was closed. I didn't had time to react on (I have my private life, I don't hang on Wikipedia for 24 hours 7 days a week).
It seems, nobody looked at the link I gave (the one from Nova TV).
That "non-existing institution" is, as I see in the article of Globus, "Zavod 25. lipnja" [5](but the name is probably the Croatian translation, Slovenians use other name for June).
Here's the line from the article "YMarjan Podobnik, direktor novoosnovanog slovenskog "Zavoda 25. lipnja", zaduženog za "očuvanje narodne baštine", ujedno i predsjednik Slovenskog narodnog saveza pri Slovenskoj pučkoj stranci (SLS), izdavač je najnovijeg zemljovida u kojem granice Slovenije ulaze duboko u hrvatsko ozemlje, a cijeli Piranski zaljev pripada Sloveniji.....Izrada zemljovida je, kaže (Podobnik), i u stručnom i u financijskom dijelu projekt grupe građana organiziranih u novoosnovanom "Zavodu 25. lipnja"... S ovako postavljenim granicama, zemljovid u potpunosti odgovara teritorijalnim pretenzijama Slovenske pučke stranke, članice vladajuće koalicije, na čijem je čelu Janez Podobnik, slovenski ministar okoliša i brat Marjana Podobnika. As I see, that institution exists, and that map is the product of that group of citizens organized into that institution. Please, don't say sarcastic remarks, if you don't have background for that. Kubura (talk) 07:53, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
