Hey I saw you have marked Kyle McMahon as debated for deletion. He has had a lot of coverage, not just around here (Delawarean here) in News Journal, Middletown Transcript, etc but nationally as well (Washington Post, NY Times, etc). He's had 2 national / international releases, as noted in the bio and is with one of the 4 major labels (Warner Borthers). He's had recent airplay on MTV, been on 4 Oprah shows, trended on Twitter, was in an ESPN documentary about managing about a pro golfer at the US Open, works with some of the biggest names in the business, was the MTV Rock the Vote artist for Delaware and is now on a national campaign with 2 well known figures standing up for fatherlessness. If that's not worthy of inclusion I'm not sure what is. We follow his career closely, obviously, as the coverage I've seen and the stuff he's doing is phenomenal. Myself and a few other "fans" / supporters took great care in picking out the best sources for the article before we submitted it for this very reason. You can also see two other long time editors reviewed it and approved it. Just wanted to give you some additional info. Could you add some of those links from these national newspapers to the article? That would help demonstrate notability. I did a quick Google search and could find nothing. I am not up on current pop culture, but I didn't see any records that reached national charts, a criteria for WP:MUSICBIO), nor anything on television that reached WP:ENT(Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions."). Not sure how the blogging is perceived with regard to Notability. IMHO, these days lots of social media coverage nor appearances on a few shows (as opposed to starring, creating, directing, or producing) reach notability. That's cool. What I would have recommended would be to have gone in again and posted a "Whoops" sort of reply to yourself. Or, you could have blanked out the content of the page, which would still leave the initial thought, but buried in archives. By asking for an admin to delete the page (different than blanking), it "hides" from view any historical path on the page, except to administrators who are privileged with the tools to look at deleted pages.
I used to live in Sherwood Park off of Milltown Road, which I suppose you're familiar with the locale? I am working on my own encyclopedic article about Brandywine Springs, but outside of Wikipedia, because I don't get along well with many of those who wield power here. They don't appreciate my jovial tone of superiority. User:Cla68 has assisted me with the construction of the off-Wikipedia page. It's already beating Wikipedia in various search results. I won't ask if you'd like to help contribute to "my" page, because that might be interpreted as exploiting Wikipedia for self-promotional purposes. Hi guys. I'm Jkalkman. I am fairly new on Wikipedia and trying to look at the tourism entities in Oklahoma and add any appropriate content and links. I've devoted a great number of hours to this endeavor over the past month and have learned alot about the ways of Wikipedia. I've even been able to start a few articles and add tons of what I view to be very useful information to lists, categories and articles concerning Oklahoma tourism entities. I thought that I was going a little crazy this morning when links that I thought I had placed on lakes in Oklahoma began disappearing. So I redid the work. This afternoon, I was going to pick up where I left off on the list of lakes in Oklahoma (I've been adding nearby cities, rivers, surface acres and information links to the list someone else posted)when I noticed that some of them were missing again. I tried again and then got to wondering and looked at the history page - my first time for this. I noticed that someone had reverted the additions as being extraneous links, so I read the cited information about what should and should not be linked. I believe that the information I've linked to about Kaw Lake and some of the other lakes that was recently removed was extremely useful to people researching these lakes for the purposes of visiting them, learning about the wildlife and outdoor recreation opportunities, finding contact information, viewing photos, watching videos, etc. I'm not understanding the objection. As Arxiloxo said, the content and link edits that I've been making are definitely in good faith, they are from an official source which I thought I had gone to great pains to make clear and I believe that others will find them useful. I don't understand everything I'm reading here. Is someone requesting a mass deletion of all this work? Is there someone that I need to talk to? Or what do I need to do? I put Joseph Smith as a resident of Lebanon NH, and forgot to provide a source. According to "Teachings of Presidents of the Church", published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (2007) "Evidence of the Prophet's extraordinary character emerged early in his life. The Smiths were living in West Lebanon , New Hampshire when a deadly epidemic of typhpoid fever..." (page 2) there's more on the disease and etc but that's the part. Also in the Historical Summary at the beginning of the book (basically a timeline) They have "ca. 1813-Contracts typhoid fever; complications require surgery on his left leg. At this time, the Smith family was living in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, one of several places to which the family moved between 1808 and 1816 in search of opportunities for work." (introduction page xiv). I realize that it says West Lebanon, but the West Lebanon, New Hampshire page is so small (seeing as how it's really just a district within Leb) that I thought it more appropriate to put it in Lebanon's page of notable persons.

Oh, and I'm not a Mormon, they just happen to be what I'm studying right now (I'm a history major in college with an insatiable interest in religions and theology, so I decided to study them), but I am a former resident (and I was born at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital) so I thought it would be interesting to add his name. Baffled by your recent change edit

Just wondering why you would change the consistent date formatting of over 140 dates that were in in the yr-mo-day format in the Christine O'Donnell, U.S. politician article to the British format? There were only a handful of dates formatted the British way before your change. diff Per the MOS section WP:DATERET If an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the whole article should conform to it, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic. Personnal preference. I find the date format 10 November 2010 much less ambiguous than the 2010-11-10; it could be interpreted as October 11, 2010. I believe the date changes I made were in the course of updating and archiving references. A few friendly hints on archiving: Your archiving is requiring a lot of manual edits by me to make it right. See here, here, and here Basically, it is not constructive. I completely believe you are acting in good faith however, I would like you to cease and desist for a while or to comment out all the new archiving you do. Please see the COD talk page for my discussion on this. Here are a few hints that should prove helpful to you in the future. They are not gratuitous hints, they are based on your work:

  • NYT articles don't need it, they are posted virtually forever, and the WebCite archives come out poorly formatted
  • Yahoo News doesn't allow it, you will get a url from WebCite, but it won't be any good
  • Archiving DOES work very well w/WaPo articles
  • if it's in the Article Collections section of the LAT, it doesn't need archiving.

Notable people references edit

Hi, I am a patroller of all of the communities of Iowa and I am informing you that I am undoing your removal of the references in the town of Ottumwa, Iowa, section Notable people. I too at one time thought there was no need of references if the person was blue-linked, however I found out consensus had been reached to convince me to change my editing practices. The subject of having a reference has been discussed six times starting in 2007 at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. The most recent discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline#References for Notable people has consensus that there be two conditions to being in the Notable people section. 1st the person needs to be blue-linked this establishes that they pass the notability standards of Wikipedia. 2nd there needs to be a external reference that cites the relationship of the Notable person to the city included with the persons blue-link entry in the Notable people section. The first condition has been met (blue-linked), although a inline citation (or a citation in the infobox) should be included in the person's article. The second condition is what I want you to be made aware of, and urge you to include proper references in the future. It will take time but eventually I hope all people in the Notable people section will have references.
The other edits you made to Ottumwa were correct in my opinion and appreciated.

I recently was involved in an article about a Portugese notable. Very little was written about him in English, but volumes were written about him in Portgese and Spanish and he has won a notable Porugese award. We cannot ignore our own policies and notability guidelines simply because "some" editors do not read Spanish, or because others do not read Portugese. As in Jackie Wong's case, problems with the sourcing of topics with non-English notability IS what the recognized concern with systemic bias is all about. And while yes, it is best that readers might be able to investigate sources themselves, that is not always possible. Processes are in place to deal with such. Your concern is valid, but the circumstance has come up before and our good faith in the others that can read and translate is encouraged. OK, thanks. I'm a relatively new editor and obviously my perspective of what Wikipedia is and how it works needs to be tweaked. My understanding of sourcing was all statements of fact should be sourced with information the reader could confirm. This adds legitimacy to the process. My concern is that one could make outrageous or false claims and source it with material in a language that few of the potential readers could read. While someone fluent in that language could catch the mistake, the odds of that are low unless. Regardless, I'll accept that my understanding of the process is not correct and move on. I see the solution to my concern about foreign language sources: Wikipedia:Citing sources#Non-English sources states "When quoting a source in a different language, please provide both the original-language quotation and an English translation, in the text, in a footnote, or on the talk page as appropriate." That is one solution, but shouldn't the original editor include the translation with the original entry? One could ask the editor after the edit, but there is no guarantee that it will every be done. I know this is a policy issue, but it would seem reasonable to me that after a certain period of time after making such a request, the article should be considered unsourced if no translation is forthcoming. Well, Wikipedia has dealt with this issue many times, so know that your concern is not new. While requesting a translation is the solution suggested by guideline and policy, considering an article automatically unsourced unless the translation is also present is not... and we do rely here a lot on good faith. Category:Available translators in Wikipedia shares a list of some editors who are active in translations. And you might wish to make such requests from editors listed at Category:Translators zh-en... but remember... Wikipedia recognizes itself as a work in progress, does not demand immediate perfection, and patience is a virtue. Such editors will try to assist as able. I am not sure where your wholesale and anonymous revert [ie., you decided to act w/o discussing your concerns with me] is supported here. "Edit Pages"? Reverts are not often classed as general editing; it is "reverting" and justified when dealing with vandalism and spam. And nowhere does WP suggest to "revert new edits you do not appreciate and/or have not taken time to investigate". Are you perhaps a bot or aspiring to act as one? Please consider- If WP needed a bot to remove content such as mine-ie., new material in popular pages, sans references- there would prolly already be one now.
No doubt you will be thinking about one particular- &the single most over-quoted WP standard-"Verifiability". WP standard is *nowhere* defined as "Verified On Demand". WP Policy does not state: "New Content Should Be Immediately Verified and Fully Annotated". Perhaps you feel articles and their sections are best born wholly formed, mature and robust? If that were the case I fear few new articles would ever be begun. This is neither true of older content. WP standards use the specifiec term "verifiable" ie., being possible to verify. "Unverified" content is par for the course here- We see it everywhere there is a "references needed" template- a template which would appear on most pages if they were aggressively groomed. Yet information from and about such a notorious and widely accessible subject, and a related "secondary literature" is obviously available. All the points I made are clearly verifiable- thus they conform to that WP standard. Allegations of WP:OR mean little when dealing with facts concerning such a notable topic. You are welcome apply yourself to proving otherwise- or that my points are false. However do keep in mind that as absence alone is no evidence; denial alone is no proof. Or you might make more constructive edits in line with my purpose should you perceive that. Have you never yet attempted to tackle a subject that is outside your academic bailiwick? A simple outline provides the basis for a labor of learning. From such is writing born. In my reactions I have noted that the article appears to suffer from what i identify as a defensive conservatism familiar to Stern among his listeners. Or perhaps you yourself feel un-empowered to attempt what i have- a more spontaneous writing in the service of producing a natural readability in early drafts. "Earlier forms" of writing are par for this course; they are quite inevitable.
In general, I usually feel mass reversions of this type (made w/o contacting an affected editor) appear intentionally &/or crassly rude, done in the service of some sort of idealism or other. In this case though I can perhaps appreciate the Stern topic might attract some vandalism and warrants some vigilance. But until you can demonstrate some more conclusive non-verifiability, I do ask that you return my work- and then leave it in place. How else can it be developed? I do intend to continue to work on the new section where I left off, with my content reinstated, and I do ask that you facilitate this by replacing my work, or give valid reasons why you should not. WP needs editors who can cultivate relationships with other editors and their work- not 'bots". In the future should you have any objections to others' attempts at writing, you now have the descriptors of a considerate editor to guide your better efforts.

Hi, have you looked at the discussion about the World Tour on the Talk page of the article. I asked a third party to review our differences and he stated that a paragraph about the tour was sufficient, a detailed list could be considered a advertising which is against Wikipedia policy. If you still do not agree, we can take our dispute to the next level of arbitration.
With regard to associated acts, from what I understand Mark Farner doesn't fit the definition of Associated Acts. From Template:Infobox musical artist, Associated acts are:

::..professional relationships with other musicians or bands that are significant and notable to this artist's career.

This field can include, for example, any of the following:
  • For individuals: groups of which he or she has been a member
  • Other acts with which this act has collaborated on multiple occasions, or on an album, or toured with as a single collaboration act playing together
  • Groups which have spun off from this group
  • A group from which this group has spun off
The following uses of this field should be avoided:
  • Association of groups with members' solo careers
  • Groups with only one member in common

Blanking might seem misleading, but admins do know that. For example, when I check contributions, I pay attention to edits to their own talk, and removal of warnings usually indicates that the user is experienced in whatever they are doing. I think I'll put back the photo of the non-extant Killgore properties that you removed, as well as the link to the non-existant articles. I work regularly with WP:NRHP and have taken half or more of the photos of NRHP sites in Wilmington and New Castle County. Odd as it seems, the common practice at WP:NRHP is to put in photos of the sites of demolished buildings. The reason is simply so that folks know what's there, and we can demonstrate to the NRHP that they need to update their lists. I can certainly get some fellow project members to explain this better, if you want more clarification. The only thing unusual here is that I managed to get two non-extant sites in the same photo!

BTW, I searched high and low (but not high enough) for the Newport railroad station. I later figured out where it is (was) supposed to be. Do you know whether it is still there? Is there any public access that you know of? Smallbones (talk) 20:59, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

OK, I learned something new today. However, shouldn't the picture of the old Killgore Hall building be the empty lot across the street from Minquas Fire Company where Wroten's Hardware once stood as I believe this was the Killgore buildings?
I don't know much about the old Newport Railroad station. I think I remember seeing a glimpse of it years ago, but I assume it was turn down. From what I understand, the stations in Stanton and Kiamensi were almost identical structures. Alas, these were torn down years ago. My father grew up on James Street just a block away fromthe station; I'll have to check the old family photos to see if tehre might be a picture of the station. Photographing things that aren't there, aka the sites of "non-extant buildings" does have it's difficulties. Maybe you can tell me if my logic has failed here. See File:Minquas FD Newport DE.jpg. I'm facing south, with James Street just outside of the frame to the left. The building just behind me is 113 N. James and I'm just a few yards south of it with about 20 yards to the corner. Killgore Hall is supposed to be 101 N. James - which I figure must be the corner about where the "available" sign is. The Killgore House was 107 N. James which must be between me and the sign. This seems to jibe with the NRHP nomination forms. The only question mark is the coords given (which are exactly the same for both sites!). They'd be just off to the right of the photo. But there are quite often NRHP coords that are say 30-40 yards off, so it's probably at the corner. This type of thing sometimes borders OR, so do please let me know where I went wrong.

The empty lot you noted was the former location of Wroten's Hardware, which I am led to believe was the final incarnation of both buildings. I recall that Wroten's was a ramshackle affair; I assume a later addition connected the two buildings. So, yes, I think the NRHP coordinates are not correct. When as the building nominated for NRHP? It was probably before GPS systems were available and were a "guesstimate" from a larger map.
The only thing that doesn't jibe with my memory is the location of the Killgore House. I don't remember theri being a house north of Wroten's on James Street but I think I remember one bing west of it on Justis Street. Again it could just be my memory playing tricks on me.
I'll have to dig around and see if we might also have an old picture of Wroten's in the family pictures.
One final thought. If you don't mind, I'll try to get a better piture for the Newport Info box. I assume you are the one who inserted the Minquas Fire Hall picture. Perhaps I get take a picture of the Town Building or the water tower.Wkharrisjr (talk) 15:23, 7 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Doing a little research, I note that the NRHP report was filed in 1993, before the GPS era, so that could explain the positioning error. And yes, the Killgore House was north of Killgore Hall, so my memory is slipping. One question though, what are Wikipedia policies regarding the use of photos in the NRHP reports? Please do get a better pic for the infobox. I tried long and hard to try to get us to use the NRHP photos, but the feeling is that they are NOT produced by the NRHP but by private individuals who then submit them to the NRHP. I even tried to get the pre-1976 (or some such year) in because they were published without a copyright when that was required. I still think I'm right (they are public records similar to court cases), but nobody agrees with me. Some exceptions, some - not many photo are taken directly by NRHP people or by HABS (federal employees), sometimes there are pre-1923 photos included, etc. Thanks for the help. See WT:NJ and take a look at the other 565 articles on the list of municipalities in New Jersey. Regarding references and the replacement of valid references with citation templates, Wikipedia:Citing sources#Citation templates and tools states that "The use of citation templates is neither encouraged nor discouraged: an article should not be switched between templated and non-templated citations without good reason and consensus...", referring to earlier in the document where it states "when adding citations, to try to follow the system and style already in use in the article." Using templates does not make the article "better", and if templates are not used throughout the article are only inconsistent and confusing. If a source is a bare inline link it might be worthwhile, but using one's time to reformat an existing reference to use a template is an unnecessary waste of time. In thinking about my actions and re-reading my comments I realize that I have been quite WP:BITEy. I am not enamored with citation templates, while others (yourself included) prefer their use. As I see it, reformatting a source to use a template might be "better" than using a non-templated reference, but adding a source where none existed before is a gigantic improvement to an article. The benefits of adding sources where none existed (as I see it) are simply so much greater than the benefit of using templates to reformat existing references, and Wikipedia:Citing sources#Citation templates and tools makes it clear that the benefit of changing standards might well be non-existent, that I just won't do it. You clearly have an interest in and knowledge about these subjects and I hope that you will continue to edit and genuinely improve these articles by finding and adding new sources to back up unsourced material. No offense really taken. I am a casual editor and you are obviously much more passionate about the topic and so I defer to your opinions. You are right that our foucs should be on improving the citations themselves rather than the format of existing citations. Honestly, I never knew there was backlash against the citation templates until now; I just assumed that they existed to provide a cleaner and more consistent appearance to the citations. (My pet peeve is bare urls as citations). Because right now we have contradictory numbers (link says 55% of the nation is Muslim whereas the graph says it's 38%). Phillies Owners edit

Yes, Phillies have a lot of owners, but every baseball team has a lot of owners. There's usually a dedicated page for a team listing all the owners and companies. The sidebar, to me anyway, is to offer quick highlights, and for owners specifically, to indicate who the controlling or majority owner(s) is. Otherwise the sidebar gets too bogged down. I also don't think you're supposed to source sidebar information, as sources can be put in the main article that the sidebar is summarizing. It didn't feel it has the right kick to it. iI is not grammatically correct. BTW, don't change to just "wearing uniforms during the Battle of the Bulge" because it implicates that enemy soldiers caught behind their own lines and get shot for just uniforms of a belligerent when in fact if you're caught behind lines of a belligerent in their uniforms, you get shot. Re:Question about access date edit

Absolutely, 99% of the time I would include an accessdate - however for offline sources if you include an accessdate without a url parameter then you get an error message at the bottom of the page asking for a url. Hi Wkharrisjr, I saw yesterday you reported 74.203.156.189 at AIV for vandalism, and I declined as there was only one instance of vandalism in the past day. I see you reported it again this morning, and it got blocked... is it normal to do that, re-report an IP that was declined? I'm a new admin and I'm still getting used to the standards of what is sanctionable and what isn't, so my question is genuine... I'd like to be able to handle AIV reports correctly the first time. the problem before with the reference display was purely typographical--you had left off the closing > in a </ref> tag, and had not completed the final parts of a cite template or closed it with the }}--probably as part of an accidental deletion during an edit. These are very common errors but it is not easy to devise a way to fix them automatically with ambiguity. We have however at least done something: there should have been a bold red warning displayed about this when you previewed or saved the edit. WP syntax, like html & similar to other other computer programming is unforgiving. People are working on a visual editor that will avoid most of the difficulties, but it still hasn't been possible to write a fully satisfactory one--our syntax is so peculiar. When something doesn't work right,ask about on some person's talk page or on Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)-- I know you left a note on the AfC, but that does not necessarily get noticed. Texas Southern NCAA Sanctions edit

The NCAA sanctions are already on the TSU football page since its their infraction. Broadmoor was the person blocked for edit-warring on a different issue regarding the same article, not the other user ElKevbo; as for the Sanctions issue, the admins didn't agree with either party. Texas Southern Rivalries edit

Oh my goodness. What is your proof or validation that only nationally recognized rivalries are noted? Because if you look at most university and high school wiki pages they note all their main rivalries ... most of which are not nationally recognized. So a precedent has been established and you can't change that. Looking over your cited references, I see most of the rivalries have a traditional trophy or a designated name, all of which either have Wikipedia articles or are mentioned in multiple media sources- this ties back to my original statement that the rivalries should meet WP:NOTE standards ( demonstrated by seperate Wikipedia articles or multiple, independent media coverage).
