References in portals edit

I notice that you are adding a {{Reflist}} to many portal pages. I think a better fix in most cases would be to remove the references! This was discussed at Wikipedia talk:Portal guidelines#References in portals. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pescitarian edit

Hello, you reversed my reversal of a redirect to a real article about Pescetarianism, which is people who restrict their diet to fish, eggs, fruits and vegetables. The article you reversed, Pescitarian, is a fictional unsourced article related to Joe Pesci. The list is from the article List of vegetarians. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello again! I come with cap in hand! edit

Hi JJJunk!

Many moons ago you were an absolute star for me and helped with my construction of a page for John Watts. I'm looking to put together another page for a young artist who's making great waves but who hasn't as yet got a page called Fable. I was wondering if you'd be up for the somewhat thankless task of helping me out once again?

I can offer little but my eternal gratitude and a promise I'll get better at this stuff at some point soon!

2001–02 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season edit

Regarding your edit to add the notelist? How on Earth is that picking up and working the note on the page? That note is related to part of the table not shown and shouldn't be there on the page. It doesn't make sense on it's own like that... Govvy (talk) 09:16, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Govvy: As some background, the page was listed on Category:Pages_with_missing_references_list, so that's how I found it. The page had the typical citation error at the bottom:
Cite error: There are <ref group=lower-alpha> tags or {{efn}} templates on this page, but the references will not show without a {{reflist}} template or {{notelist}} template.
Despite the error message, there weren't actually any {{efn}} tags or associated <ref> tags on the page. This can happen if there is an {{efn}} tag in a template that is included on the page, so that's what I figured happened.
Seeing your comment here, I dove a bit deeper.
  • I found that the {{efn}} tag is included on the page via {{:2001–02 FA Premier League|showteam=TOT}}
  • I investigated 2001–02 FA Premier League and found that the page uses Lua scripts to build the table.
  • I investigated Module:Sports results, the Lua script used to build the table, and it looks like the script is not properly building the {{notelist}} in HTML. The script is building the list as <div class="reflist"> when it should be <div class="reflist" style="list-style-type: lower-alpha;">.
  • I'm assuming the incorrectly generated {{notelist}} is the root cause of the issue and is why the page appeared on Category:Pages_with_missing_references_list and resulted in the need for the {{notelist}} being added to the bottom of the page in the first place.
I'll leave a comment on Module talk:Sports results explaining my findings so hopefully someone can get this sorted!
Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help. — TheJJJunk (say hello) 13:46, 26 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
