Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Qa screenshot2.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Qa screenshot2.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:8mormonproposition.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Please stop marking content-containing edits as "minor edits" edit

Please read Help:Minor edit and honor the points it makes. In short, "minor edits" should be limited to the very barest, least controversial changes, such as things like citation reformatting and spacing. Editors often automatically omit "minor edits" from their watchlists, marking an edit that contains even a modest content change as minor is seen by a large number of editors as "trying to sneak something by them", which is a particular problem for articles which are potentially controversial. Thanks !--je deckertalk 18:38, 21 June 2010 (UTC) PS: Sorry about stepping on your toes trying to put that info back. It's back in the location you put it in first. I did a tiny bit of cleanup to the citation format, but it's otherwise as you left it. --je deckertalk 18:44, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Box Elder High School edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Box Elder High School, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.behs.besd.net/index2.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 15:13, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Help identifying BYU football coaches edit

Hello, I noticed that you made many edits on articles pertaining to BYU football and I was wondering if you could help me identify some of the coaches in this image. Thanks. Thomson (talk) 00:00, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your response. Do you think the fourth person from the left looks like Brandon Doman? Thomson (talk) 23:42, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, here is another photo of BYU coaches I want you to help be identify. To me, it looks like the coach at the very left is either Kelly Poppinga or Ben Cahoon, the coach shouting resembles Lance Reynolds, the coach third from the left is Nick Howell and the coach at the very right is Brandon Doman. Speedy deletion nomination of Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons women's ice hockey edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons women's ice hockey requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Mormon rap.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mormon rap.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 19:46, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

WP principles edit

The principles I was referring to do not concern editing nuts and bolts. They concern the overall goals and purpose of Wikipedia: 1. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a web page; 2. Information added to Wikipedia must have reliable sources; 3. Wikipedia is coherent, not a collection of randomly added information. What I've seen so far from your students is a lot of scattershot additions written in a chatty, editorial, verbose, unencyclopedic style.

Improving the UWRF article is a nice goal. Perhaps if your students first read the Wikipedia:College and university article guidelines, and then examined some featured and good university and college articles, they might get an idea of what constitutes quality encyclopedic content, writing, and organization. Other useful reading includes: Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. It might also be useful for them to collaborate on an outline for the article and a plan for achieving improvements. (Collaboration is always a good skill to learn.) Their energy is welcome; to improve WP it just needs to be better channeled.

BTW, what is your goal for having them learn to edit Wikipedia? 71.139.148.177 (talk) 17:29, 16 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

You might also want to talk with them about plagiarism and copyright violations. 70.235.84.123 (talk) 20:09, 16 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Regarding cut-and-paste move of Ryan Hamilton to Ryan Hamilton (ice hockey player) edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Ryan Hamilton a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. File permission problem with File:Cullen Douglas, 2015.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Cullen Douglas, 2015.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 04:56, 23 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Morkie edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Morkie, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Draft:Rock Tape concern edit

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Rock Tape, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:36, 21 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Rock Tape edit

Hello, Tbc32. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Rock Tape".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Draft:Rock Tape}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 19:40, 8 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Michael Bean edit

Hi there,

I notice you converted Michael Bean from a redirect into a full article; thank you for your contribution.

However, if you're going to do this you should still acknowledge the reason the redirect was made in the first place; in this case that's by including {{distinguish|Michael Biehn}} at the start of the article, which expands into "Not to be confused with Michael Biehn." There are other types of disambiguation "hatnote" like this, but the principle is the same.

License tagging for File:Courageous Love movie poster.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Courageous Love movie poster.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. Image without license edit

Unspecified source/license for File:TheKingsMessengers.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:TheKingsMessengers.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 23:46, 11 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sockpuppet investigation edit

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Tbc32, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community. – Fayenatic London 14:08, 16 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've closed the investigation after discussion with Fayenatic london. If these accounts are all part of a class exercise or project, please note that Wikipedia has its own special WikiEdu program that would suit your classroom needs well. You may want to consider using it. Regards, GABgab 16:20, 25 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Judging by the remarkable number of your articles that have been deleted, you should probably be looking for independent suggestions for subjects rather than whatever your current source of topics might be. Guy (help!) 23:04, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Guy, I could use your help. I feel like I did address the concerns raised in the prior deletion of this article. I deleted several statements that didn't have clear secondary sources, reordered and added references to establish notability as an actor (his IMdB shows he had a lead role in several movies and has made appearances on a couple notable ones). I've read Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, the guidelines on spam, and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations and believe that the article is in-line with the criteria set out in those articles. What am I missing? Why would this article by considered G11? As you've noted the last few articles I've written have all been deleted and all for the same reasons... but no one has helped me understand the actual reason for their deletion. I didn't have many problems with the first 50 articles I wrote and published on Wikipedia so as you can imagine this has been incredibly frustrating as I've spent hours and hours doing research on these recent articles so that I can post really high quality articles. I would love any advice you could give me. Cheers, Tyler (talk) 02:10, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Honestly, almost any article about a "motivational speaker" ends up looking like spam, because that's how they shape their online presence. Guy (help!) 09:11, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Guy, That may be true, but in the case of Clint Pulver he reaches the Wikipedia expectation for notability as an actor and just happens to also be a motivational speaker (among other things). So what do I need to do so that the article isn't speedy deleted just because not every aspect of his life is notable or because motivational speaking isn't viewed as a significant achievement? For many other entertainers, authors, etc. it is not uncommon for their wikipedia articles to mention that they also do speaking if that is an important part of what they're currently doing (e.g. Rudy Ruettiger). Any advice? Tyler (talk) 19:38, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
That rather invites the question on why you're the only one creating the article, and why it's been declined and deleted multiple times as obviously promotional. If I put it back in draft space will you promise not to move it back yourself, but instead leave it to an independent admin to review? Guy (help!) 23:13, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Guy, I'm still not clear on why the article is "obviously promotional", as you say. Can you please explain? I really have tried to make the article as objective as possible, which is why I have cited so many secondary resources. I'd love for you do put it back in draft space so I can continue working on it... but honestly, I'm not sure what i should do to change/improve it. The article already clearly meets requirements of notability so I'm sure the problem must be my writing style, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. None of my first 50 articles posted to Wikipedia were deleted but three of my last five have been and I'm sure I must be making the same mistakes in those as I am in this. Any advice? Tyler (talk) 22:29, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Tbc32, Of course it's not obvious to you. If it was, no doubt you would not have written this and all the other articles of yours that have been deleted as promotional. Interestingly, you don't seem to do anything else of note here. Are you pad to do this or something? Guy (help!) 23:54, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Guy, No, I'm not paid. I write articles about topics I'm interested in so I can do research that will help me learn things I want to learn, and that will benefit others who are interested in those topics. I think that's pretty closely aligned with Wikipedia's mission. Wikipedia has been a wonderful resource that I've used to help my students do better research and understand the world in a way that will improve their lives. And I write about a lot of different topics. Right now I'm interested in public speaking so I'm doing research on the best public speakers in the world (an area that I believe is lacking in Wikipedia). And you're right, what I need to change in writing these articles is not obvious to me or I would have changed and adapted. Unfortunately the people who pull articles down and critique them almost never give actual suggestions on how to improve the article. They might tag them with a G11 or link to Wikipedia guidelines (which I've read and understand), but not indicate why those tags were included. For example, you've now told me several times that my articles are promotional and have deleted several of my articles, but you won't explain why. So I'm stuck having written what I think are quality articles, but those articles are deleted without me understanding why. I'd love to improve the articles so they can help more people. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:07, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Eric Chester (speaker) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eric Chester (speaker), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Orphaned non-free image File:TrekTheMovie.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:TrekTheMovie.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:23, 25 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:TrekTheMovie.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TrekTheMovie.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:16, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Draft:Clint Pulver edit

Hello, Tbc32. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Clint Pulver".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Proposed deletion of Skydog (film) edit

The article Skydog (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable film, only has coverage by one significant source, all other "coverage" is press releases and databases, does not meet WP:NF

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
