Warring Factions

I did a brief bit of cleanup and spell-checking on the Warring Factions article. An easy way to do spell-checking when writing Wikipedia articles is to use the Mozilla Firefox internet browser, and then add the SpellBound extension. After you've added the extension, then install both the American Engish and British English spell-checkers so you can select which one you want to use (see the Wikipedia Manual of Style for info on dealing with the different versions of English).

A suggestion for the Warring Factions#Brief, Inaccurate History: Since it is admittedly inaccurate, and almost all of that section is only of interest to hardcore Warring Factions players, it is really not encyclopedia material. It is the type of info that would be more appropriate if the Warring Factions MMOG had its own wiki. History for an encyclopedia entry would be info like when was the game started, how was the game engine developed, etc. You might look at some of the other articles on MMOGs for ideas on how to edit the Warring Factions article.

I took a brief look at the Warring Factions website and didn't see anything about the game history, so you might have to contact some of the admins or game developers by email. ^BlankVerse 08:06, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Vandal tags

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia!

Be sure to put warning tags on the vandal's user talk page (such as {{subst:test}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:test3}}, {{subst:test4}}). Add each of these tags on the vandal's talk page, in sequential order, after each instance of vandalism. Adding warnings to the talk page assists administrators in determining whether or not the user should be blocked. Your userpage was briefly delisted by a rogue admin

This user believes that only articles need reflect a NPOV, and that displaying political, religious, or other beliefs using userboxes and user categories should not be banned.

You have a userbox Template:User UN which links your userpage to United Nations Wikipedians. There is currently a movement to ban userboxes from Wikipedia which are shared and which create List of Wikipedians. Certain admins have taken it upon themselves to preemptively sabotage and/or delete such categories and template. Here is the incident report which reported damage to yours, in which hundreds of userpages were delinked from categories without the users' knowledge. They have been stopped, barely, and the damage reverted— for now.

There is a Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll, which if passed, will make required by policy the damage done to categories and templates such as User UN/United Nations Wikipedians. If you do not want this to happen, I urge you to vote Oppose. in the poll. Support is currently running at about 66%, and your vote could make the difference. It is said to require 75%-80% to be deemed reflective of consensus.

ITT Technical Institute

Hey, you've been active on that page recently, so I'm specifically looking for your input, if you have some. I have added some information to the controversy section. It is all true. However, it probably tips the POV too much to the positive side. In my mind, Wikipedia NPOV policy is not about removing true statements but balancing them with other true statements. Do you think there's a NPOV way we could bring up the fact that some ITT grads feel cheated during and/or afterwards? Some people clearly do feel that ITT is a diploma mill, but we have to be able to cite it to mention it. Any thoughts on how we could do that? Jacqui^★ 19:40, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Grammar issue

I noticed that you listed yourself as a grammar nazi. I actually have a grammar issue that I thought you might be willing to help with. It is regarding whether or not dances (like waltz, tango, swing, ballet, etc.) should be capitalized. There is currently a discussion about it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dance and Talk:Lindy Hop. TeenSpot

I honestly don't know HOW to cite this claim, but, it's quite true, and quite factual. I've been in the chatrooms and am capable of taking logs, and 99.9% of the "chat" is people requesting cybersex and webcams and pictures. Oh, sorry. I, for some reason, didn't look at the edit summaries. I am on RC patrol, and, frequently, I revert an article to a vandalized state (I wish some clever developer could develop some uber-RC tool that can detect vandalism and remove it, not just revert it). Removal of teenspot

Not at all. The threshold for inclusion on that list is quite clear. The article doesn't meet the criteria. As it fails WP:WEB, which no one has addressed on the AfD. Whether the article is under afd or a speedy template, if its felt it doesn't meet the criteria we have long precedent in removing those articles until the issue is resolved.--Crossmr (talk) 01:08, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Okay, well I agree that it was poorly written but I think it's pretty significant, especially given the amount of attention that Denton is getting lately (three new york times articles in the last year, mostly about growth and culture). I think a lot of people have been trying to find information on it, so I'd like to use wikipedia as a way to collect existing information and avoid it becoming a promotional article. There is some controversy regarding the controversy regarding ITT Tech. I have a stated bias. (I guess maybe I should have kept that a secret.) Apple Juice

Thanks for reverting my blunder on the apple juice article, I corrected the vandalism first time and managed to completely fail the second - and I didn't notice... I was using Twinkle for the first time, all of two minutes, then tried to revert vandalism in progress, not a good idea I see from the result. My username is a reference to the fictional expletive "smeg" in Red Dwarf (for more information, see here), similar to "frak" from Battlestar Galactica, "frell" from Farscape, or "shazbot!" from Mork & Mindy. I don't believe a fictional expletive counts as an offensive word, and if it does then any user who has "frak" in their username should also be blocked (see here ) as well as any other fictional expletive. There is a belief by some that "smeg" refers to "smegma", but that is not a statement supported by the program's writers, and other fictional expletives are commonly permitted before watershed, supporting the notion that a fictional expletive is -not- offensive. It depends on the block, and if an IP range is "hard blocked" you'd need to have Wikipedia:IP block exemption to edit through it. That's only granted under special circumstances, and if you have a way to edit without going via a VPN then that would almost always be preferred.
