Reverting Vandalism edit

Vandal tags edit

Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia!

Be sure to put warning tags on the vandal's user talk page (such as {{subst:test}}, {{subst:test2}}, {{subst:test3}}, {{subst:test4}}). Add each of these tags on the vandal's talk page, in sequential order, after each instance of vandalism. Adding warnings to the talk page assists administrators in determining whether or not the user should be blocked. If the user continues to vandalize pages after you add the {{subst:test4}} tag, request administrator assistance at Request for Intervention. Again, thank you for helping to make Wikipedia better. Notability of Will Whitehorn edit

A tag has been placed on Will Whitehorn requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Is this thing working? (talk) 22:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hundreds edit

Hello, as I was going through assessments for WPSweden, I noticed several "Hundreds" being tagged despite being redirects. It seems that several months ago (Sep 2008), you were changing all these articles into redirects to List of hundreds of Sweden. At the same time, you essentially erased a lot of information (primarily abou location), which I find a worrying approach to writing an encyclopedia. Combining stubs into an article is something different than just erasing! I have made a general comment here. Regards, Tomas e (talk) 15:47, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Swedish towns and villages edit

hi I'm glad you are devleoping Sweden. One thing though is there any reaosn why you are naming the categories Localities in .. County. The convention on here is to use Category:Cities, towns and villages. WOuld you have any objection if we renamed the categories Cities, towns and villages in .... County. You see I'm trying to order world cities town and villages from top down by country and the more consistent we can make it the better. Other countries are named this way by province/district etc. Could we rename the categories? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:43, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK Great. By remaing it can include any settlement within the given country, just makes the ordering more consistent by country and province/county. I'll request the cat change using AWB. Keep up the good work. This is the sort of work I do on here myself but mostly municipal level areas in developing world countries. My main aim is to have every country covered with municipal/third level units covered by country. so your contributions help. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi OK I've created Category:Cities, towns and villages in Blekinge County . A lot of existing articles are not categorised correctly too so this also makes the move towards more consistency. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:16, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thats great. We will also need to empty Category:Villages in Sweden and organize by county into our new categories but that can come later. It merges and ties up a lot and makes it completely organised. Regards. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:25, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Excellent consistency is what we need on here and your infobox maps, nav templates and order will make it come on leaps and bounds. So by renaming it merges two stray categories into one! Best of luck with Sweden Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:30, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

One thing though. It is custom in the infobox to list higher order first. So it should be:

  • Country
  • Province
  • County
  • Municipality

The smallest denomination e.g municpality should came last. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:07, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah it will have to be changed. Don't worry about what you've done so far, if you can change the order from those you create from now on we'll have the others sorted another time. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:13, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ah you have the data in order like that to read. I see. OK continue as you are, we will need a bot to sort it afterwards. Once you've done the urban areas I would recommend branching the municipality templates out to include rural villages (providing they have more than 50 people!) and any notable landmarks and topics too, so eventually we have a sound coverage of each area. It will take time but definately something to consider but at present you've got your work cut out with the urban areas. You certainly don't have to worry about notability as some people moan about as the people who matter on here consider these places important. Best Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:17, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Horndal and other Swedish localities edit

Why is the subject matter important? I am not saying that it isn't, but maybe just adding a little more context will make it clear. Btw I decided against littering the talk page and decided just to make the point here instead, because I am sure you know why it is important, but just havn't made it clear yet. Wikiphile1603 (talk) 18:55, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wow, this goes for many similar articles that you have created today too. Wikiphile1603 (talk) 19:04, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Apparently you are right: Wikipedia:Inherent notability. It is not official policy (it's an essay) but seems standard practice. I guess they would have to not be tiny, but 1000+ people I am guessing would be enough. You learn something new on Wikipedia every day! I reverted the tag. Wikiphile1603 (talk) 19:27, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well I don't know if these smaller ones should be inherently notable or not, but I am not involved in this area so wouldn't dispute borderline issues anyway. Also, existance in other languages is a good sign anyway I guess. Wikiphile1603 (talk) 19:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Even villages are notable.

Swedish towns edit

  The Geography Barnstar
Skizzik, I award you this barnstar for all the Swedish town articles you've been creating lately! Rosiestep (talk) 22:51, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well deserved. I don't know if this will complicate things for you but I've created a new pushpin map for Skane County showing municipal and county location. See Arild. However given that wikipedia s a global website I think it is essential we keep the main Sweden national locator map. Having two map one for county location and one for national is a good I think. All you have to do is add the extra pushpinmap like I've done with Arild. I'll make some more county pushpin maps now, as long as you don't replace the main Sweden maps though! Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:33, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

You can keep a track at Category:Sweden location map templates. I've made Kalmar as well. I tried to do Stockholm yesterday but an error somehow occurred. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:55, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK I've made pin maps for every county. it would be best to have the county map on top I think. We don't want the infoboxes to get any longer now but we can't help it with long countries like Sweden. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:02, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

You should be able to use any county map now see Ekeby, Södertälje Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:24, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh I thought Halland was a historical province. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:33, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. There shouldn't be any reason why you can't add them to your infoboxes as it doesn't infere with your statistics. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:35, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

If the county map was a little too big like it was with Ekeby-Almby you can adjust the size of the map to smaller if necessary by adding pushpin_mapsize=200 etc. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:41, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I see. OK we'll see if somebody can add them using AWB afterwards. I've already asked ALbert to project tag your articles. Maybe he can add the maps using awb at a later date. I'll leave you to it now, I have a lot of work with Turkish towns to tackle now. Regards. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:46, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

You're creating new articles now with the wrong categories. OK its one one or two. Sorted.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:25, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maps in articles on localities edit

Regarding Romakloster and its maps:

Despite the already overwhelming hugeness of the Sweden map in the articles on Swedish places, the "pinhead" becomes large enough to cover the area of a metropolitan city, even when a place has barely over 200 inhabitants all living on less than a km2. Together with the room it takes, I think this makes the country map less useful. People can click through to Gotland/Gotland County and Sweden if they want more information.

The best solution would be pushpin maps of the county/län, with a small insert of the map of Sweden in a corner, but I don't know how to draw maps. To do this rationally, one probably needs a good GIS program that can generate them automatically from a database. --Hegvald (talk) 07:55, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, I see. I'm going to ask the German user who made these maps if he can make a modified version. --Hegvald (talk) 09:01, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Modified Gotland map edit

New and improved map of Gotland! Now featuring Sweden!

I asked User:Erik Frohne about this, and he modified his original Gotland map and uploaded it under a different title. I haven't figured out how to get the template to use it, though, or even how to make a modified template for this. I also uploaded a version with a different name on Commons just to test, but it does not appear to work. --Hegvald (talk) 12:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have asked at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) about the new template, as I can't get it to work for some reason. I modified the image in Inkscape to make the inserted map of Sweden somewhat larger. I also coloured Gotland red, which stands out more against the rest of the map. I'm not sure this will work equally well with all the other maps without changing the actual proportions of the "base map" to include some "coverable" territory from adjacent counties, but I see no reason why that couldn't be done. All one would need to do, presumably, would be to change the coordinates to fit the new map. --Hegvald (talk) 06:49, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
OK, the technical quirks appear to have been ironed out, although I'm not sure why things started working after my first failed trials (could be something in the complex nesting of templates within templates within templates that seem to be going on with these things).
Gotland is done. The easiness with which the rest of the counties can be handled will now depend on the shape of each county... --Hegvald (talk) 10:45, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Default spacing in and around headings edit

I notice that you are reformatting the spacing around headings. If you will make a test edit for a new section on your talk page, you will discover what Wikipedia's default settings are for such headings. There is spacing between the heading text and the equals signs, and between the heading and the first line of text. This makes it easier to find headings when editing. Please don't change the defaults. I'm sure there is something more significant to do here than make such edits which make it more difficult to edit articles. I suspect this might apply especially to editors whose eyesight may not be what it once was. -- Brangifer (talk) 14:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have a genuine concern that repeating Forbes research is a copyvio, especially given that they explain that even linking to their subpages they consider an infringement of their rights. I am raising these concerns on Wikipedia:Copyright problems so they can be investigated by someone who knows more about these matters than I do. SilkTork *YES! 09:31, 11 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:25, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Sanning eller konsekvens.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Sanning eller konsekvens.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:05, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Södertuna Castle edit

The article Södertuna Castle has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I do not believe that the subject of this article is notable. It has been tagged with a notability template since July 2009. Since then, in my opinion, nothing has been done to establish that the subject is notable. I did check Google scholar, and only three hits showed up. Nothing showed up in Google News, and the plain Google hits did not seem promising.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion of "Lulebo" edit

A page you created, Lulebo, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how it is important or significant, and thus why it should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for companies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thoughts edit

Hej Skizzik. First & foremost thanks for your contributions. "Tack tack". Then some thoughts to share:

  • You do a great job reverting vandalism, but I haven't noticed you wp:warning the editors concerned. Tools like Twinkle make this easy, and of course the earlier a vandal gets warned, the quicker they get blocked, the less havoc they cause & the less work needs doing to undo their bad work. If each vandalising edit gets a warning, then the vandal will be blocked after 4 edits, but if we all just revert, there's nothing to prevent the vandal continuing unpunished for some time. This means you & I and all of us would have many reverts to do, before action were taken.
  • I notice you supply edit summaries. Very good - except that you always seem to put (update). That's all very well, but doesn't give any clue as to the nature of the update. There is a list of abbreviations, which you could use to be more helpful in ES's - for an explanation of some commonly used abbreviations, see this edit summary legend.
  • Your talk page is getting quite long, so it's harder for people to find a section they've added. Had you thought about wp:archiving some of it? I could tell you how if you want.

Anyway, good luck with the Sweden edits. Regards, Trafford09 (talk) 21:38, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested) edit

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:32, 11 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages edit

Dear Author/Skizzik

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Staphylococcal infections. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. I started with Template:Localities in Botkyrka Municipality. The 2010 data isn't actually as comprehensive as the 2005 source. most of the entries were missing I looked for. Anyway, I have a feeling that some of the settlements I added into this to increase comprehensive coverage are not officially "localities". Proposed deletion of Kopparberg and Aspeboda Court District edit

The article Kopparberg and Aspeboda Court District has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Redircet is wrong. (Nya) Kopparberg is nowhere near Aspeboda. Read the article redirected to. The meaning is Stora Kopparberg and Aspeboda court district, but there are no suitable articles to redirect to.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
