Thanks!

For reverting the vandalism on my page. TNXMan 13:23, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

help

{{helpme}} I am trying to initialize Lupin's Anti-Vandal tool on Internet explorer, however it is not working. On my monobook.js file I have it entered as importScript('User:Lupin/recent2.js'); and was wondering if I had it entered wrong or if it's just not compatible with IE.--Skater (talk) 02:15, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Try force reloading your browser now (purging the cache, etc.). CTRL and F5 at the same time. But according to WP:LUPIN, IE has had limited testing, so it also might be the browser. Killiondude (talk) 02:18, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:16, 28 April 2009 (UTC) Thank you!--Skater (talk) 02:24, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

A revert...

Re: [this edit]: Frustratingly enough, users are allowed to blank their own talk page--even including perfectly-good warnings--any time they want to do so. Removing warnings doesn't take them out of the history, and it DOES imply that the user has READ and UNDERSTOOD the warnings. Although I totally agree with you in spirit, as an admin, I've got to say: it's considered bad Wikimanners to revert user-page edits by the user whose page it is. Not a huge deal; just don't repeat it. Thanks!!! GJC 17:52, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

I apologize, I wasen't aware that you were allowed to blank the pages for that. --Skater (talk) 18:17, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Like I said, totally not a huge deal. I figured you didn't know--because if you DID know, then you wouldn't have done it! :) Somebody had to tell me the same thing, long ago when I was a n00b... GJC 18:32, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Just out of interest it's documented here as part of the Userpage guidelines. Tonywalton Talk 12:36, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Church. I have granted you NPWatcher per your request here. After looking over a few of your contributions, your talk page, and your block log, I feel you can be trusted with the tool. Re: Star Trek Edit

What was the deal with editing the Amanda Forman link back to the disambiguation page? I changed the link to save another click, as the other person with the same name has nothing to do with the topic. Apparently you just wanted to get your rather chavvy-looking tag onto my userpage? Think about what you're doing before removing edits that actually contribute to this site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Narfmaster (talkcontribs) 17:46, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I apologize, I thought I had hit the undo button to reverse my edit but apparently not. I am not out to get you as you see to believe I am. It was simple mistake.--SKATER Speak. 17:52, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't mind people editing my own edits and if it was a mistake then fine, I'm not going to judge you for that. I just didn't appreciate the stab in the face "Welcome to Wikipedia", considering I'm hardly new, and while not in any great amount I'm pretty well versed with correcting minor link errors like this... Narfmaster (talk) 18:24, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I didn't mean it as a stab at your experience level, I just used the Basic Uw-Template Vandal template. --SKATER Speak. 18:33, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Flame War

I deleted your warning because I was stunned by the audacity shown by an apparently 15-year-old editor to not only warn me, but actually YELL at me to stop (along with an insult, luser), from a previous position of complete and utter non-involvement. I would understand if our arguement was on an article talkpage, but it's not. A warning does nothing to stop an argument if it is itself incendiary. Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 16:00, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't see how my edit was in anyway Incendiary and see you as the on the one that been flaming. I don't see why you are bringing my age into this. I in no way called you a "Luser", unless that is another violation of NPA which you seem to completely ignore.--Skater (talk) 16:05, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

WP:TROUT is a cluebat. I didn't mean the term "incendiary" to imply that you were now flamewarring, but that the phrasing of that warning wasn't going to help cool tempers. Imagine a warning from a stranger that read "Quit it, you idiots".
You'll notice I didn't link WP:NPA back to you. I wasn't returning a warning to you, just explaining why I removed your warning (which you obviously saw as significant, having specifically pointed it out in your report). I don't know if you can tell from reading 67's talkpage, but I'm not in a good mood. I don't intend to turn this page into a second argument, I'm only explaining myself.
You've very diligently pointed out everything I've done wrong, and can safely stop now. I'm aware. Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 16:16, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

And thank you, further New Message alerts will be unnecessary, as I'm now watching this page for changes (which sounds way creepier than it is).

I didn't see you removing the warning as signifigant it was the edit summary which I found offensive. I could tell that things were bothering you. Hence your retired Icon, and I can completely understand being a Vandal fighter myself. Trust me my friend, don't let them get to you. To me vandals are like zombies, you can't stop them but can slow them down. I apologize for seeing you as trying to start another argument, I should have assumed good faith with that post. I've never really gotten into a conflict here before, so I'll be taking this as a learning experience. Best of luck with your mood and I truly hope you'll decide to stay here.--Skater (talk) 16:45, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I've responded to your additions on etiquette report. Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 16:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
I noticed, and will mark it as resolved if you promise to stop the war with 67. --Skater (talk) 16:49, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Pending 67's response (which is inevitable, he's been edit-warring Foo Fighters articles for a YEAR, one warning means jack). Obviously I have nothing to add to his page until he responds. I will attempt to be as civil as humanly possible. Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 16:55, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

I understand, might wanna bring that up on the 3RR notice board. I will mark the case as resolved but will keep a close eye on it.--Skater (talk) 16:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, he never technically violates 3RR, and I've never been able to get a diff sheet together to make a case for WP:GAME. Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 20:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
That sucks, how come you can't get a diff?--Skater (talk) 00:41, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I mean a convincing, damning one.
Oh, ok. I'll watch his contribs and if he truly has been edit warring I'll assist you. --Skater (talk) 03:42, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Let me help you out on that. Ready for a read?

67 is Spooky873. If you look through his contribs (and the contribs of his various now-banned sockpuppets), it paints a clear picture of a disruptive editor.

He refuses to allow edits to Foo Fighters-related articles that don't meet his standards (and sometimes not at all anyway; he subscribes to the absolutely misguided philosophy of "It if ain't broke, don't fix it"). There was a consensus vote on the foo fighters article itself, he recruited meatpuppets to try to swing the vote, and was discovered. A second vote (to determine if the genre Post-grunge should be added to other foo-fighters articles) was derailed by him claiming the first vote was rigged, and never concluded; I've attempted to get it started again, but apparently no one is watching the page. He's been watching Foo Fighters articles since then, reverting any edits that alter the list of genres (because Alt Rock "will suffice", despite being vague and uninformative at best.)

I'd also estimate about 90% of his talkpage posts are offensive. This little gem is a perfect example of everything I've said about his editing method. From The Colour and the Shape:

"Do people around here have the intelligence of a pubic hair? What is the point of changing something that is completely fine? Alternative rock suffices, there is NO POINT in going out of your way to CHANGE it whatsoever. There is NOTHING WRONG with the genre. I don't understand why you keep doing it and doing it and doing it. Every time you change it it will be RESTORED to its ORIGINAL information."

Unfortunately, these edits aren't recent, and these days, he only edits at all when it's to revert a change I've made (usually with an insulting edit summary, even on his edit responding to my "absurd claim" that edit summaries are for SUMMARIZING your EDIT (my moment of poor judgement aside, and for that I apologize). If anything, he's a good candidate for WP:OWN, WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT, and WP:NPA. Regrettably, as I was suckered into an edit war with him (he just HAD to play the "lolurgay" card), my credibility in bringing that last one forward is exactly zero.

Oh, also, good luck with your future bid for adminship. --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 19:44, 15 May 2009 (UTC) I see, he has definitely violated a few rules and guidelines, I went through his edits and he also seems to be Wikistalking. If you want, I will report him too WP:ANI Since I appear to be a near neutral party.

Thanks, I decided I'm going to try to expand my edits a bit. I'm going to hit the 1000th milestone tonight and probably will wait for the editor review before I determine my next course of action. This is the first conflict I've had on Wikipedia and I'm taking it step by step and learning from it.--SKATER Speak. 20:31, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Go ahead and report him, if you think you have a case. I'm not interested in proceeding with this in any fashion that will allow him any measure of legitimacy, especially something he can point at and say "SEE? I'M BEING HARASSED". He's yet to make an edit since your warning, but he may just be biding his time until the warning doesn't count as "current" for the purposes of a ban. --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 19:37, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not going to report just yet. If he starts editing edit warring again then I will. --SKATER Speak. 19:52, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Alright, yeah. He's now reverting my edits with no summary, and obviously has no intention of explaining and/or justifying (which I'm sure he thinks he's already done). --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 02:39, 18 May 2009 (UTC) Creating WP:ANI case now, Could you please find me the the consensus he used meat puppets in? Thanks --SKATER Speak. 02:51, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Foo Fighters#Help with consensus That would be here. I believe he states somewhere in this section that editing as an IP is "More convenient". As he later found out, it doesn't make you harder to ban.
Talk:Foo Fighers#Album Genre Consistency Obvious disruptive editor (he's 74.85.13.62 here- it's a library computer or something, check the contribs from january '08- exact same rhetoric and editing style)
Talk:Foo Fighters#Post-grunge He edits primarily as User:131.125.115.15 here, then casts two more votes for consensus, as User:38.99.101.131 and User talk:38.99.101.133. And that's just one article. --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 03:48, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Alright, I'll create it tommorow I'd do it tonight but I gotta get some sleep, Big test tommorow..--SKATER Speak. 03:56, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Any update? --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 13:18, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Not yet, I'm gonna get it tonight though, if not sooner.--SKATER Speak. 15:18, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Looks good. I've added my two cents. Don't forget to post the alert to the reported user's talk page! You can use {{subst:ani}}. Next time, anyway; I've already added this one. --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 13:04, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Alright, sorry about the grammar I was tired when I wrote it up.
Grammar wasn't an issue, though you did post a couple malformed links, which I fixed. The only grammar mistake I see you consistently making is using "too" (adverb; also, furthermore, as well) when you mean "to" (preposition, "used for expressing motion or direction toward a point, person, place, or thing approached and reached, as opposed to from"(Dictionary.com)). --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 16:21, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Adoption

Are you still looking for a mentor?

(You can have more than one).

I've been an active Wikipedian since October 2005, and have accumulated over 60,000 edits.

If you are interested, drop me a note.

The Transhumanist 19:06, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Dang... 60,000 edits. I'm sure I could learn from that experience, thanks!--SKATER Speak. 01:13, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
OK. Let's start out with a some questions...

Tools

What tools do you use to edit Wikipedia?

  1. (What kind of computer)
I'll give you the Technical details
  1. Manufacturer: Dell Inc
  2. Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
  3. Memory: 446MB RAM
  4. Hard Drive: 41 GB
  5. Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
  6. Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
  7. Sound Card: SigmaTel Audio
  8. Keyboard: USB Root Hub
  9. Mouse: USB Root Hub
  10. Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.080814-1242)
  11. NOTE: This is the desktop I normally have access too. I generally am on my school laptop.
  1. (What kind of internet connection)

T1/LAN

  1. (What operating system(s))

Windows XP on both

  1. (What browser(s))

IE, and Firefox

  1. (What browser extensions or add-ons)

None

  1. (What scripts)

All the scripts in User:Skaterthealmighty.js, specifically LUPIN'S.

  1. (What other programs).

If i'm on my desktop, Huggle. For example, I use:

  1. Computer: a Dell, with a Pentium 4 processor
  2. Connection speed: the computer is on the network of a major university, so the connection speed is pretty fast, even though the computer itself is rather dated. It is fast enough to use WP:LINKY without putting me to sleep.
  3. Operating system: Windows XP ([[Windows XP Professional|Professional)
  4. Browser: Firefox 3.0.3
  5. Browser add-on: WP:LINKY
  6. Scripts, installed in User:The Transhumanist/monobook.js: WP:WikEd, Watchlist sorter, Navigation popups, and Lupin's live feeds - to load all of these easily, see Wikipedia:Tools/Optimum tool set#Super fast upgrade
  7. Other programs: none (I can't load any, because it is a library computer, but if I could, I'd be using WP:AWB extensively. I'm very familiar with AWB, and I assign many AWB tasks to others on my team who have it).

Other user accounts

I noticed some gaps in your contribs since you started. What other accounts have you used on Wikipedia?

For example, I've used over a dozen. My other accounts are listed at User talk:The Transhumanist/Archive menu.

I have not used any other account. After creating the account I just left it for a while.--SKATER Speak. 22:09, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

General approach to learning Wikipedia

My initial approach to learning Wikipedia was to develop its main directories so I could find what I was looking for. So I led the revamping of Help:Contents, built Wikipedia:Department directory, and resurrected WP:TOTD.

But I still only knew Wikipedia superficially and not in essence. So I started teaching others, which forced me to learn a whole lot faster. Though I wasn't an admin, I signed up as an admin coach.

Here are some other resources I've developed (or led the development of at some point) that you might find useful:

General approach to developing Wikipedia

Be bold, innovate, and lead.

Team work

I'm currently heading up a team of advanced editors on improving Wikipedia access and coverage.

You are invited to join. (We'll get you up to speed pretty fast).

Just drop me a note and let me know, and I'll be happy to add you to the team's mailing list.

Then we can get started on your first assignment, and introduce you to the rest of the team.  :)

The Transhumanist 19:19, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'll help.--SKATER Speak. 22:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Cool.

First things first.

I need to know the answers to the questions I asked above, so I can assign tasks that fit your situation and skill set.

The Transhumanist 22:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm gonna assume you have me watched by now, but I did answer your questions.--SKATER Speak. 22:20, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I have a confession to make: I rarely use the watchlist feature - only when there's an AfD or critical consensus-wavering discussion I'm involved with. Though I check the contribs of my team members fairly often, especially when they have assignments.  :)
OK, I've read your stats above. Nice.
Here's what I need you to do:
  1. Request registration for WP:AWB (assuming you have 500+ edits in article space)
  2. Load WP:LINKY into Firefox.
  3. Try Linky out on Portal:Contents/Outline of knowledge. (highlight a section of the page, then right click, and select Linky from the drop down menu. Then open selected links in tabs. Use ctrl-W to cycle through the tabs, blasting them as you go. Use ctrl-tab to cycle through the tabs, leaving them in place.
Drop me a note when you are done, or if you have any questions. The Transhumanist 19:54, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
