Till 1657/1660 the Duchy of Prussia was - as a fief- part of the Kingdom of Poland. The elector of Brandenburg was till 1660 a vasal of the polish king and as a lord of brandenburg a vasal of the german emperor. Queensland LGAs

Hi Astrokey44. You may be interested to know that there are a number of new LGAs coming into effect in Queensland on 15 March 2008. See Local Government Areas of Queensland. As you did a wonderful job with maps for the old LGAs I though I would ask to see if you were interested in creating maps for the new LGAs as weel as revising the statewide map. There is of course no hurry and if you can't help then that is cool too. I have tried to set up a co-ordination section of AWNB here if you wish to contribute. Gunnmap, User:Aaaarg, and Map recommendation

Hello, since user:Aaaarg seems abscent from Wikipedia, can you introduce a little this interesting application (Gunnmap) :

1. Where to download ? -> answer/the link http://gunn.co.nz/map/GunnMap.air is empty.
2. Is it easy to use ? -> answer, need it special skills, software, Linux/Window ?
3. are the sources free and available ? -> Link: http://gunn.co.nz/map/ AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just cry one hour when I discovered that I can't save the final product ; Available: I think Arthur was making this also to promote his website and father business. Don't care: I perfectly agree to support the business of people making a such amazing and generous job ! But I note that he will probably not share the code (for a such huge and hight quality work, I honestly can't request him to free his code). So, his current soft displaying to much parametres/possibilities, we (/I? O.o) will have to give him many feedback/request to get the option "Make gradiant map according to Wikipedia standard".

Hi everyone, sorry for my absence.

You can get the offline version from http://gunn.co.nz/map/GunnMap.air.zip The offline version allows you to save the maps in PNG and SVG form. Note that currently the generated SVGs can only be read by a small number of apps. I should be able to fix this in a later version. Last time I checked Wikimedia was able to handle them okay, however I would still recommend PNGs.

The app requires Adobe AIR. There are Mac OS and Windows versions which can be download from http://get.adobe.com/air/ . There is also a Linux alpha available at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/air/ .

I'm currently planning another version with an improved interface and some new features, so feel free to give me suggestions or requests.

Hi, if you're going to tag places like Houtman Abrolhos or Pedra Branca, which were named by the Dutch but are nonetheless names of Portuguese origin, would you mind moving that template to a more accurate title? Hesperian 06:24, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, The Dutch didn't name Cape Leeuwin; they didn't even find it. A Dutch ship called the Leeuwin met with the south west of Australia, and thereafter that land was named "Leeuwin's Landt" by the Dutch. But it was Matthew Flinders who discovered the Cape itself, and named it Cape Leeuwin. This is only going to work if you figure out a precise definition, give the template a title and heading that conforms to that definition, and then only tag articles that meet your definition. And I'm not at all certain about Dirk Hartog Island either. Hartog himself named it "Eendrachtlandt". I don't know who renamed it in Hartog's honour; it could have been Vlamingh (Dutch), Freycinet (French), Dampier (English) or even King (English). I doubt Nuytsland too. That's at least two, maybe four errors out of six for Western Australia alone. The more I look into this the more it bothers me. Please stop and have a good long think about it. Chiming in, I agree with Hesperian. Your article Australian places with Dutch names‎ is probably a good place to expand on the etymology of these names, but a template without a lead and inclusion criteria has the potential to be misleading. As it reads now, the template is factually wrong as above and may need to be deleted. It could simply be replaced by a ==See also== entry. The article is good and useful by the way and could be expanded. Moondyne 08:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

yes I wasn't sure what to do about some of them, there were a few grey areas. There are a few where there is a feature which is named after the old general name for the area used by the Dutch, like Cape Leeuwin/Leeuwin's Landt as you mentioned. What if the template was limited to places named by the Dutch which are still in use, and the Portuguese names were noted? --Roke 09:17, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Another problem still remaining is some place names have little resemblance to the name given eg. Rottnest Island. Apparently, that is an Anglicisation of "Eyland Rottenest"—the Dutch did not give it the current in-use name. Moondyne 12:25, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
