Manifestation edit

Note the belief is tht Narayana manifested as Swaminarayan (NOT Nara Narayana). Thanks, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 14:25, 30 June 2009 (UTC) Narayana from the Nara Narayana is very clear isnt it - the link should be to Narayana becoz it was Narayana (or Krishna) from the pair who did tk avatar. A link to Nara Narayana would make it confusing and sound as if both together took avatar. Wht do u think? Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 13:24, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • Nara Narayana on its own would b confusing. How abt either - "Narayana from the Nara Narayana pair" or "Krishna as Narayana" (Krishna is Narayana in Nara Narayana and even the bishop heber ref says Krishna). I dint want to move the manifestation - but saw no way out. I suggest we let it pass GA and then put it back for the FA review (with a note saying this was removed in the GA review but is essential to the article). Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 13:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • off hand - Ahmedabad and Bhuj by Swaminarayan himself. I can remember 3 more with idols New Jersey (colonia), Karachi and Gandhinagar. London (Stanmore) and Crawley have smaller ones. There are loads with pictorial images and loads within India will hv idols as well. I tht v finalsied "Narayana from the Nara Narayana pair". On a diff note - hwz the new sea link (or shld I say "Rajiv Gandhi Setu"!). Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 14:13, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • haha - I read Sena-BJP is actually goin to court to name it "Veer Savarkar Setu". Id rather bother bout the hottest summer here in 30 yrs rather thn tht nonsense (this country needs an intro to a/c's man!). Seems ok to me. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 14:31, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • As the info belongs to Swaminarayans time - can v keep the imgs of tht time as well - this was the reasoning when I changed the Crawley pic earlier. The Swaminarayan Faith/Sampraday/BAPS articles can hv todays pics - as its more of today there.Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 14:35, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Well rather then going to court for such a petty matter, they shld hv acted as a constructive opposition, and pinned the govt down on a time frame for the Worli-Haji Ali bridge. Then try and win the elections (they prob need to reconcile with Raj Thakeray fr tht!) by the time its ready, highjack tht project n name it aftr Savarkar! :P Bout the image - the Dholera one also shows tht, I was trying to maintain the 1781-1830 timeline in pics as well. Yup - go ahead. Guess ur off to Pandharpur for Ashadi Ekadashi tom - tty on sat. tc, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 22:41, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Panch Kedar edit

Hi! Redtiger,

Thanks for the assessment of my article Chittorgarh Fort. I intend to post a four articles single Hook on the above subject. Since you have been a great contributor to Hinduism articles, I wish to know if you have visited all the five Kshetras and if so do you have any photos of Madhyamaheswar,Rudranath and Kalpeswar temples. The other two temples namely,Kedarnath and Tungnath are fairly well covered but there are no details of the other three. I will prepare them with Panch Kedar as the main artcile in my sand box and I would appreciate your contribution of valuable inputs so that we could subesequently conominate them. I will start it after your response. --Nvvchar (talk) 14:51, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

The above article will take some time. In the meanwhile, please have a look at my User:Nvvchar/sandbox and let me know if you wish to co-nominate the article Royal Opera House (Mumbai). Some photos of the Opera house and if you could also add the latest info on its restoration, it would embellish it. I will post it after you confirm. It is an expansion of an exisitng article.--Nvvchar (talk) 00:47, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have started working on the Panch Kedar articles. I should be able to post them on my sand box in the next few days. --Nvvchar (talk) 15:00, 10 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have posted the first draft of the article on Panch Kedar. It needs lot more expansion. The other four in the link would be Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheaswar and Kalpeshwar. I will keep adding more text in the next couple of days.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:23, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

and User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kalpeshwar resepctively. I have also completed my inputs to Rudranath and Panch Kedar. They could be posted on main page when you say 'ready'.--Nvvchar (talk) 04:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have no news from you. I thought of the following hook which comes to 278 ch. As per rules, excluding the bolded names of the five articles it may just go through. What do you think about it? We can further fine tune it.--Nvvchar (talk) 09:03, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have completed my inputs on all the five articles. Links to all are in User:Nvvchar/sandbox. Let me know if you want me to add anymore. However, there is one small issue which I have not been able to resolve. I uploaded a photo of Madhmaheshwar from flickr on wikicommons but it may be deleted after a week, since the bot message in my talk page indicates that it is not properly licenced. You may be able to resolve it. Kindly check.--Nvvchar (talk) 11:25, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I thought we were going together on all the five Panch Kedar articles. When I asked you if I could edit Rudranath, you said yes.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:43, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Nice gesture. What about posting the other three on the same date?

GA Sweeps July update edit

Thanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 290 articles were swept in June! Last month was our second most successful month in reviewing articles (after May). We are currently over 70% done with Sweeps, with just under 800 articles left to review. With nearly 50 members, that averages out to about 15 articles per person. If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. This may sound difficult, but if everyone completes their reviews, Sweeps would be completed in less than two years when we first started (with only four members!). With the conclusion of Sweeps, each editor could spend more time writing GAs, reviewing at the backlogged GAN, or focusing on other GARs. Again, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 18:04, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Banashankari Amma Temple edit

Hi! Redtiger,

During my visit to Hubli recently, I visited the Banashankari Amma Temple and was quite impressed. I took some pictures and expanded a stub article in my User:Nvvchar/sandbox. But there is one reference in Kannada language (no translation avaialble) and another of a local tourist book, which does not have an url link. It may also be slightly short of the five times expansion (I dont know how to check it exactly). Since this temple is also venerated by Maharashtrians, you may like to add to the text for joint posting on the DYK.--Nvvchar (talk) 06:35, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is a remark under the hook on the image. There is spelling error, with 't' prefixed to water spelt as twater in the file name. I tried to fix it by cropping the picture and changing the spelling. It does not seem to work. Will you please have a try in correcting the spelling? Thanks--Nvvchar (talk) 02:32, 15 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please see my talk page. The DYK is through.--Nvvchar (talk) 06:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Swaminarayan Appreciation
Awarded to Redtigerxyz for his contributions to WP: Swaminarayan, in particular helping promote Swaminarayan to GA status. This is just the beginning. WP: Swaminarayan has a long way to go - keep it up! Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 10:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Now u no y I wanted u to join WP: Swaminarayan! lol - your reviews/inputs/contributions were a big factor in seeing us thru. For Swaminarayan - I was thinking of giving it a bit of a breather (If I rem correctly it stood 132 in most edited articles on en wiki some time ago!). The reasoning: If u saw Hamiltonstones closing comments - v need to minimise use of internal sources. At the moment I think v dont hv enough external sources - therefore use of internal ones. I hope giving it a breather would mean tht it gives us time to find more external sources. When I started using Google Books in 2007 for Swaminarayan the 2 Williams books were the only 2 major sources. Today there are several others - which v hv used. Tomorrow, hopefully there will be enough for us to nominate it for FA (then there is also the manifestation section tht I think needs to b incorporated sumwher in the article). Frankly, the Swaminarayan GA was a major reason for my sticking around - I had all but decided to call it quits out here earlier this yr. It was this challenge tht kept me going. I will nw be working on the Swaminarayan Sampraday article - though I dont no hw much. I think it covers quite a bit of info - the major issues, like u pointed out r the "citation needed" tags and lingo (need of a copy edit throughout). I also wanted to work on Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Ahmedabad - but again its lack of sources. If u hv any suggestions I will welcome them. I would love to req u for another PR - but ur more of an insider nw! Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 12:50, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Christian Conventions Review edit

Thanks for an excellent and thoughtful review. --Nemonoman (talk) 13:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what to say about the excessive number of references to Irvine as founder, except that they are an attempt to validate by numerous references a fact that is vigorously disputed by current church members, for reasons not altogether clear to me. The members who dispute the fact claim that any reference stating that Irvine was the founder is ipso facto unreliable. They have produced numerous references from self-published sources that question Irvine's influence, suggest that others involved with the early church may have had more influence, or suggest that Irvine merely popularized rather than founded an existing church. This last suggestion is often coupled with the assertion that the church has been in continual existence since shortly after the time of Christ, although some suggest that it may not have had an earthly existence for the whole period, but existed only in heaven until reappearing on earth. Many editors of this article who say they are members of the church are fierce about this, and regard the well-referenced fact of Irvine founding the church as POV and deroggatory of their group.

See, for example: this, this, this, this, and this just for starters. By my count more than 50,000 words of discussion.

For those of us who have been involved with certain articles associated with Maharashtra and India, these sorts of controversies are all too familiar. I am at a loss, truly, on how to promote information that I believe to be correct and accurate when that information is such a hot button to members of some group or other. I am all too aware that the assumptions about the validity of information get changed as the ideology of scholars developing that information change. Anyway, that's why all the references.

--Nemonoman (talk) 13:59, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the suggestion. So: just to let you know, I made several attempts at putting "Some in the group assert that Irvine was not the founder", etc., and got my head handed to me by group members who felt that THAT was POV and demeaning. We did a mini-RfC with the Christianity portal and couple of Christianity editors weighed in with a 'facts are facts' approach, since the denial of Irvine as founder is NOT DOCUMENTED(!), except on a few bulletin boards, etc., This group prides itself on not publishing anything. Anyone who publishes is sort of ejected from the group. It's kind of a mess from the wiki point of view. Thanks for your insights. --Nemonoman (talk) 14:42, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have requested a bank officer who has posted a nice artcile (you must have seen his blog refrence) on this subject in his blog with beautiful pictures. He is yet to reply. I also need to find the coordinates of all the Prayags. Is there an infobox where we can show all the five prayags on a map of Garjwal region? Nice to see three of our articles appearing on DYK main page. What about the Ashokan Edicts article?--Nvvchar (talk) 15:42, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I will move the Saptha Badri article to main space this evening. I thought of the following hooks with an image of Saptha Badri.
  • Alt 1)---that since early times approach to Badrinath, Uttarakhand, India was along bridle path of badri van (forest of berries), and hence word "Badri" got suffixed to Sapta Badri (seven) temples (pictured).
  • Alt 2)---that of the Sapta Badri (seven temples) located in Uttarakhand, India, Adi Badri (pictured), with seven of the 16 temples, is the oldest complex, dated to the Gupta period built from 5th to 8th centuries.

You can suggest any changes to the above or any alternative that you have in view. I will post them as a joint article. Probably DYK hook could be posted by you.--Nvvchar (talk) 10:24, 6 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Posted as joint article on main space. You may like to post the DYK hook suitably.--Nvvchar (talk) 12:44, 6 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

In the mean time, I have started on Triyuginarayan Temple expansion on User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kalpeshwar. You may have some more text to add and make it a viable five fold expansion of text for posting on DYK. I am also expecting to get some photos soon. You may also like to request for some photos on flickr.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:49, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it is no doubt ready but the template does not fully represent the five prayags. Should we not wait for a day? Incidentally tomarrow is Panchami, a good day to post it. I will try for the photos tonight also. In the mean time, I have started a very interesting article on Sapt Puri. I am sure you will like it and help in expanding and improving it. I have been racking my brain to find a suitable Hook for the DYK but not been able to locate one. You have been very good at it and I will appreciate if you nominate it with a suitable hook on DYK as a joint article.--Nvvchar (talk) 11:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Article uploaded on main space. For the DYK hook, I have the following suggestion.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hook)---that at Dev Prayag one of the Panch Prayag, the churning muddy Alaknanda River merges distinctly with clear flows of Bhagirathi River (pictured) to emerge as the Ganga, holiest river for Hindus?
Thanks. I like the hook. Yes, I will join on any combined efforts by us to further the knowledge on Hinduism on wikipedia. As I mentioned earlier, I have started writing an article on Sapt Puri, which I find is becoming very long. Have a review of what I have written so far at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Sapt Puri and let me know if it will work for a DYK for joint posting? Are you interested in articles on Delhi monuments, mostly Muslim, for joint posting. One such is ready at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kedarnath Musk Deer National Park. I will move it to main space after hearing from you. Also, I have taken your earlier advise seriously for posting some of my older articles for GA. I would need your expert peer review for the same.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:21, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

The expansion for Triyuginarayan Temple is very fine. I have seen your posting below the DYK hook. I have completed my inputs duly correcting the references for Titwala. Bombay Gazette and Imperial Gazettee appear to provide more info. I have not been able to see the fully digitized version on the web. You may be having it in some form with you.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:18, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please see the reviwers comments below the hook. The alternative hook is fine. You may like to accept it for the article to go through.--Nvvchar (talk) 01:20, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is a further comment by the reviewer on the Tittwala Ganesha article. Please have a look.--Nvvchar (talk) 16:51, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Steve Titus edit

You know why I created the article? It's because the investigation of his story won the Pulitzer Prize. Consider taking down that tag you put. Acme Plumbing (talk) 06:23, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I considered starting about 10 crime articles then decided that this one was the best, most interesting, and notable article. I have abandoned the other 9 or so. I am not an intentional creator of garbage! Acme Plumbing (talk) 02:40, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mahabarata GAR edit

I finally got around to starting the community reassessment of the Mahabarata article. Hopefully it will generate some useful comments, so we will all know in future what is considered "broad" for such works. Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Mahabharata/1

Also, thanks for all you input at LGBT themes in Hindu mythology. Even when i sound grumpy, i an always taking your comments into account. Considering how quickly it is growing, i think this could soon become a GA nominee (Still work to do, i know), so more input is always great. If you wanted to co-nominate, i think it would help to have a Hinduism expert tackling any review comments. I have rewritten the Agni / Shiva paragraph once again - do you think it passess muster? It seems every writer gives a different version, but i don't want it to get much bigger - it is hard to believe some of them read the same primary documents! :-)YobMod 09:56, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Undetood about the GAr, just whought you should know it is there :-).YobMod 13:48, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hellow again. I see you have a lot of experience with DYK. Do you think it would be possible to make one out of the LGBT themes in Hindu mythology article? I've not seen many on general topic like this. "LGBT themes in mytholoy include the story of...."? or "LGBT themes in Hindu mythology have been explored by ...."? What do you think? Today is the fifth day since we made the article. Would be a good way to get lots of input into the article before GAN.YobMod 13:26, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You will probably come up with a better hook than I (I've only done one DYK), so if you could do it, it would be great. If you wanted to mention me as co-nominator, would be nice, but not essential :-D.YobMod 13:32, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
the more the merrier :D. Sounds fine to me.YobMod 13:36, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sapt Puri edit

Thanks for the comments on the above draft article. I would still want you to nominate it. We have a good understanding on the subject of Hinduism and the Hindu temples. I have one more coming your way for joint posting on Guptakashi on User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Saptha Badri. I have also started an article on Rishiruna more to do with Hindu Philosophy. The summary is at User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Kedarnath Musk Deer National Park. I will expand it in the next few days. If you have any specific suggestion to work on and a few good references, please let me know.--Nvvchar (talk) 16:49, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have moved the article to main space as a joint article. I suggest the following hook for DYK. After further copy editing, you may like to nominate with suitable hooks.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:27, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Suggested Hook) …that Sapta Puri represents seven holy cities of Ayodhya, Dwarka, Haridwar, Ujjain, Kanchipuram, Mathura and Varanasi; the last city is the holiest in Hinduism ?

I have posted the DYK hook as a joint article with a different img of Varanasi Ghat. There was a bit of a problem in the authorship. I tried to put it up as by joint authors but red link was showing. So I have put it under comment as a joint article. You may please rectify it, as needed. You may also like to put up a different hook and a different img. You are most welcome to do it. I created a subpara in the summary to acoomodate the hook. --Nvvchar (talk) 09:18, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions edit

Hi - hope ur enjoying the Ganpati festival. Whenever u hv a bit of time, do give ur suggestions for Swaminarayan Hinduism. Thanks, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 16:30, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. The main reason for asking u to do this was the sections that were moved to Swaminarayan Hinduism from Swaminarayan. Im still unsure where they belong - if u rem v decd to do what the reviewer says and then form a consensus before a FA review. Although the article is not yet FA ready (internal refs still need replacement) - v do need to decide on how to distribute info among Swaminarayan and Swaminarayan Hinduism. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 21:27, 31 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
As I said I dont think the refs are strong enough for going ahead for the FA yet. If u go thru ur talk archives u will find that there was discrepancy on weather certain info b included in Swaminarayan or Swaminarayan Hinduism (then Swaminarayan Faith) and we decided to keep quiet till the GA review was over n then go over things again - I was thinking of going over that now. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 19:07, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
The beliefs section in Swaminarayan Hinduism is still a dark area. It was moved there from Swaminarayan - but Im nt yet sure where it belongs .. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 19:38, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Swaminarayan FA edit

I have been working on Swaminarayan today - overall added a lil bit of info to compensate for what was moved to Swaminarayan Hinduism and also working on refs. Although there are stil a few more internal refs req. replacement, I think tht can b managed. We can now move ahead to the copy editing - u mentioned tht u knew a few editors who hv in the past helped u with FA's - could u pl. req them to help out? Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 15:42, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yea, tht does mk sense. Lets finalise the content - I dont think its wise to invite any1 at this stage. Lets finalise the content - whoever wants to give their input is more than welcome (per wiki policy), I dont c it necessary to invite opinion as tht was already done at the time of the GA. In the mean time I am luking at replacing the refs - as they r stumbling blocks. In fact, the reason I was leaving the Badrikashram legend out was becoz ther is no proper ref 4 it (it has an internal one). Most of the internal refs at the moment cover particular dates - I plan to remove the dates in case I cant replace the said refs. With regards to the copy edit, wont it b better after v sort things out, BEFORE the peer review (4 wch I was thinking of requesting Hamiltonstone. Nw tht hes gt a bit of an insight on the topic, he may b easier to handle). The 2 things Hamiltonstone sd wer req for the FA wer the refs n the copy-edits. OK, what bout the manifestation part - its def out of place in the bottom. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 14:09, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re : Vithobha edit

Hi, Initially I did not read the user's comments clearly and was under the impression that it was an unencyclopedia chit-chat, trying to meddle with the parameters like it usually happens and reverted it. After your comments, I read the comments clearly and yes they were not vandalism; sorry for my mistake! I feel that the anon editors comments are very true, apart from what he says, the name "Vithoba" is also very famous and widely worshiped in southern India, as "Panduranga" and I honestly feel that the article deserves a rating of above mid. Pls do the needful. --Nvineeth (talk) 12:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
