File permission problem with File:Royal springs golf course,Srinagar,India.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Royal springs golf course,Srinagar,India.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.flickr.com/photos/41060860@N06/4022981714/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:11, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Adopt an Article

FYKI: WP:WikiProject_India/Adopt-an-Article: The adopt-an-article programme within the WikiProject India lets you adopt an article in such a way that you take responsibility for keeping an article up to the standard. In no way does it mean that you own an article but that you will periodically check the article content to see if there are any NPOV violations or vandalism or just that the article needs copyediting or wikifying. Thanks. --Bharathiya (talk) 03:20, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, Bharathiya. That is a good bit of information for me. Apart from this, can you kidly inform me reg follwing : I was under the impression that the images available in flickr.com can be used in wikipedia (in some articles I saw the source), but when I uploaded an image from flickr.com in article Shreedhar Swami, a message informed me that the usage may violate copyrights of the photographer. In some other articles, flicker.com images are used freely. What is the difference?
  • By the by, the image you added of Raghaveshwara Bharthi, taken during September 2012 (Swamiji with an assuring broad smile!) was very good. Keep it up. Thank you.-Rayabhari (talk) 05:10, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your kind compliments. I have also added another photo of Swamiji with an Indigenous cow. Regarding Flickr: I think we cannot freely use all the images available in Flickr. We can only use those with known CC 0.0, 2.0 or 3.0 License. That too with proper attribution.. -- Bharathiya (talk) 07:26, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Greetings from Paris

Thanks for the barnstar you gave to me. I am French, I translate articles from English to French about Indian architecture or other topics. And some times, I write an article on English wikipedia.
I look for sources about garba griha. I read in a book in French that the garbagrihas of temple dedicated to masculine deities (such as Shiva, Vishnu...) are square, but the garbagrihas of temple dedicated to feminine deities (Shakti, Durga...) are rectangular. Is it true ? Do you know a source in English (book or website) that I should use for reference. Thanks. --Tangopaso (talk) 17:20, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Pustak Mahal

Appreciate your efforts but this is what we call a "passing mention". It really isn't much use for anything. The stuff about the Rapidex books, on the hand, is very good. - Sitush (talk) 06:31, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. I got the point. -Rayabhari (talk) 06:42, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Hey, you do not have to take my word for everything. I am not always right. However, if you're going to show something like that then you may as well link to an Amazon catalogue of publications etc. One of the issues that often crops up at AfD is that sources should discuss the subject of the article in a meaningful way. A name-check does not do that.

I like what you are doing, getting involved in these AfD rescue attempts. My first article was one of those - Churchill Machine Tool Company - and over a period of about two months I took it from being at AfD to being a Good Article. What people sometimes forget is that Google searches, for example, can produce different results in different places around the world: it is entirely possible that Person A searches and finds nothing but Person B can find enough to enable an article to be retained. This is particularly true for Google Books, for which see User:Sitush/Common#GBooks. - Sitush (talk) 07:05, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Yes. Rayabhari (talk) 17:11, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Alright. If you are interested, here are four article ideas that may merit Kannada articles:

Which ones would you be interested in doing? WhisperToMe (talk) 01:48, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Kittur Chennamma

Hi, thanks for your edits to the article, I had plans to improve it but somehow got busy. I have few suggestions, I can wait till you are done with your edits. --sarvajna (talk) 12:46, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. The article needs more information and I think, with you help, we can make it a "good article", in view of importance and material available. But, as you told, online sources are difficult to get.-Rayabhari (talk) 12:51, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
I do have one or two online source and I guess even you have used it now in the article, I did check in few of the book stores here in Bangalore but none of them had any good books. I will try to do my part tonight with the sources I have. I doubt that we can take it to a GA status but yes we can give enough information. Also have pics of Chennamma's status from Belgaum. --sarvajna (talk) 13:00, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok. In my opinion, the areas to be developed urgently are :-
  • the story of adoption of the boy and death of Desai etc.(he earlier supported British)
  • the interpretation of rules imposed by British (adopted sons do not have right to kingdom)
  • the killing of British Commissioner and capture of British officers in 1824
  • the years spent by Rani Chennamma in prision upto 1829 (and who is Veeramma?)
  • heroics of Sangolli Rayanna (or is it suffecient to update it in "Sangolli Rayanna" article?)
  • the details of statue installed at New Delhi

Thank you.-Rayabhari (talk) 13:07, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:V.Chandrashekhar. Table tennis player.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:V.Chandrashekhar. Table tennis player.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the file is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:V.Chandrashekhar. Table tennis player.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:V.Chandrashekhar. Table tennis player.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I removed the speedy deletion tag that was on the file. What is wrong with the file is that a book cover is used to illustrate the article on the person whose photograph is on the cover. According to WP:NFC#UUI#9}}, this is an unacceptable use. Sorry —teb728 t c 07:15, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This has had immense coverage, but is this a really notable event?

Problem with the Shinde comment

I had reverted your add to the two articles (I'm guessing you were the one who added to the rape article also, but I didn't check that history) per WP:BLP. The problem with that is the headlines have been sensationalized -- if you go through the article, it first says compared with BJP workers and Maoists, but if you go to the interview itself he doesn't do that -- he responds to the question of why he hasn't gone to meet them with a rhetorical whom should I meet and included Congress workers, BJP workers, and Maoists; that in and of itself is not comparing the protestors to Maoists. Unfortunately given the fight for clicks, these news websites seem to be unnecessarily editorializing these things. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:17, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Thank you - I realise now, your reverts are correct. I followed suit and reverted one more sensational comment by another politician in rape article. I fully agree that we should avoid much sensationalisation (mainly originated by news agencies) in these type of articles. Rayabhari (talk) 17:22, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
I'm not saying such information doesn't have it's place in the article -- I haven't looked at the other one that you removed, so I can't comment on that, but the sources have to be credible for us to include them. Unfortunately, only a couple of newspapers right now seem to be reporting as opposed to sensationalizing so we have to be a bit careful in sifting through the source to see if their headline match the actual news content! cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:41, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Palar Blast

Sorry it took me so long to respond—I've been getting so many messages on my talk page lately (8 when I woke up this morning) that I lost track of yours. I took a look at the article, and the subject definitely appears notable enough. The governing notability guideline is either WP:N/CA or WP:EVENT; an attack that killed 22 people and was the largest in a state in a century definitely meets those. Copy editing is needed; I'll do a little, but I'll probably end up only doing part of it and then I'll leave the tag up. One minor note that will help with future creation: we only capitalize the first word of article titles except in the case of proper names. Since the newspaper reference also calls it "Palar blast" (not Blast), we can tell it's not the proper name of an event. I'll move the article in a moment.
