{{help me!}}

i've tried to swap two pages but screwed it up!

I'm trying to have the page that was current listed as "Communist Party of Australia" renamed to "Communist Party of Australia (defunct)" and the page that is currently called "Communist Party of Australia (revived)" to just "Communist Party of Australia". (There is, and never has been, a party with the word "revived" at the end).

I am trying to do this as any looking for that Party name would be looking for the second party, which is the only party currently existing by that name. (The other became defunct 20 years ago).

I tried to use the method as set out in the guide:

Move A to C Delete A Move B to A Delete B Move A to B Delete C.

I could get this to work and now I've screwed it up big time. The move from A to C is visible but for some reason I can't get B to move onto A's name.

Can you sort this out for me?

Many thanks

Jules

Yo Jules, the technical side of that shouldn't be much trouble, but I'm not sure the new party deserves pride of place at Communist Party of Australia. According to the guideline WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, when two topics share the same name, the one the reader is most likely to be looking for gets the shared title. It seems likely given the decline of communism that most people searching for "Communist Party of Australia" will be looking for the older one. The best way to resolve this is to put a requested move on the talkpage (using {{move}}) and making your case. A discussion should follow, and then an administrator will be along to implement the technical side of things. Is this helpful? Skomorokh 19:50, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
