Maya Calendar edit

Adding those images to the Maya calendar was very un-helpful.

First, the image of Chaac added nothing to the article and Quetzalcoatl is in the Nahuatl language, not Mayan at all so the image is mis-labled.

Second the image of the astrological depiction of the end of the fifth sun on 13.0.0.0.0 is something that the articles about the Maya calendar and Mesoamerican Long Count calendar specifically discuss as a hoax. This image will always be removed. Please read the articles and their talk pages before you edit these pages.

The second image might be more relevant to the 2012 Doomsday prediction article than articles that are actually about the Maya calendar. 00:39, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Senor Cuete

Mayan 2012 edit

I am just getting immersed in the body of Wikipedia articles related to the Maya culture and calendar. Articles which include Haab', José_Argüelles, Maya_architecture, Maya_calendar, Maya_calendrical_divination, Maya_codices, Maya_mythology, Maya_peoples, Maya_religion, Maya_script, Mayanism, Mayanist, Mesoamerican_Long_Count_calendar, and Tzolk'in.

With the expanding global attention on the 'Mayan Calendar' and 'Mayan Astrology' or 'Prophecy' in recent years, I would see greater documentation of the wisdom kept and taught by the Mayan Grandmothers and Grandfathers, and medicine people. The Mayan 'Seers' of the Realm of Spirit, the Spirit World, receive comparatively little citation and reference, in contrast to the academics and authors of 'the North'.

Coyote Woman, Rosa Maria Cabrera; Elizabeth Araujo; Don Alejandro Perez; Hunbatz Men; Tata Pedro Cruz; and Carlos Barrios are elders I have met with or studied as of today.

Don Alejandro Perez Oxlaj, whose Mayan name is Wakatel Utiw, Wandering Wolf, is the 13th generation in a lineage of Mayan Medicine People. He received his sacred bundle at the age of 13. He is president of the National Mayan Council of Elders of Guatemala, a body of 440 men and women elders of wisdom who represent 23 Mayan ethnic groups of Guatemala. He was instrumental in creating the reunion of Indigenous Elders and Priests of Americas and is known as the Grand Elder of the Americas. Don Alejandro holds the wisdom of the Mayan Cosmology and travels the world sharing the Mayan prophecies on the major earth changes coming in this millennium. As a medicine man (shaman), he works as a catalyst for healing on global levels.

as you know ... I tried to get one image deleted, that was uploaded accidentally. but you said users are not permitted to delete their own images which they have accidentally loaded.

as to to the reload of ThirteenGrandMothers, that was reloaded in order to have a lower resolution image, which requires less loading time when used in an article.

AfD Nomination: SpiritWorld edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem that SpiritWorld meets these criteria, an editor has started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SpiritWorld. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, a neutral third party will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. Deconstructhis (talk) 03:09, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you violate Wikipedia's no original research policy by inserting unpublished information or your personal analysis into an article, as you did to Feminism in Japan, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Deconstructhis (talk) 18:10, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Assuming "good faith" edit

I want to make it clear that I have no real personal animus toward you, what I'm objecting to in these contexts, are problems I have with your editing practises relating to things like copyright, what is in my opinion, the unencyclopedic tone and style and what I consider the "original research" issues within the content of the article. When you first added the SpiritWorld article to Wiki, I deliberately didn't post what I thought were appropriate warning templates under the circumstances and attempted to engage you on the articles talk page instead. I also did not apply for a "speedy deletion" for the article when I first encountered it, something that quite possibly might have actually happened under some circumstances given the article's unconventional nature in both style and content.[3] Without taking it too personally, I'd like to suggest to you that you should think about what that possibility implies about some of your current "problems" with other editors. In principle Wikipedia is for everyone, but on occasion some new participating editors fairly quickly discover that Wiki is too "constraining" in terms of their own personal style, it's not a good fit for them as individuals, both in an intellectual and "spiritual" sense. Wikipedia policy *is* constraining, but it's currently what we have to work with. One instance of what is not acceptable, in Wiki policy, is failing to ascribe "good faith" (see link in title) toward other editors, such as you made here [4] where you accuse someone of "vandalism" and here [5] where you are claiming that another editor (me, I believe in this case) as having engaged in "violence" toward you. That sort of "personalizing" of the debate around issues isn't an advisable activity in the encyclopedia by anyone; it's unnecessary in my opinion. And I learned that the hard way. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 19:04, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please remember to assume good faith when dealing with other editors, which you did not do on Talk:Feminism in Japan. Thank you. Deconstructhis (talk) 19:05, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Because I'm aware that you are possibly considering creating further articles in the near future, it would be unfair of me not to remind you before you expend a lot of energy on these projects, to please please pay attention when it comes to some of these issues regarding your interpretation of Wiki policy. It's advisable to go slow and learn as much about policy as you can before throwing yourself into this. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 19:17, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

aho brother deconstructhis,
I can only assume good faith when it is accompanied by good language. And you should read my responses to your accusations, rather than continuing your unhelpful comments. If you are indeed a seasoned editor, then you would have perspective and wisdom, and would act/communicate accordingly. We need to raise the standards of communication and collaboration at WP, not degrade them. I have never entered any original research in the few articles I have created or edited here at Wikipedia -- all my editing has been accompanied by ALL three sources of references: 1) written and published, AND 2) Wikipedia, AND 3) internet. No editing of a WP article is complete, all are mere steps in the process, and it is absurd to suggest that my additions to an article will not be clarified, honed, and expanded upon by every editor that come along ... just as are the contributions by ALL editors.
Glad to have you as my companion on my arrival here at WP, but that doesn't mean I don't have the same freedom to learn and grow as everyone else. And if you haven't noticed, the SpiritWorld article I began, in contrast to MOST articles at Wikipedia, is VERY well-referenced/verified, and is becoming more refined every day. That is why we have the editing process, rather than the vandalize/delete (abuse?) process.
Am I wrong in assuming that we are trying to broaden and deepen, refine and polish and COMPLETE WikiPedia -- rather than mar and confuse and shrink it?

WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: II (April 2010) edit

Sociology ProjectNews • April 2010

The Sociology WikiProject is conducting a roll call (or min-census, if you prefer). More then five years down the road, we have over 50 members, but we don't know how many of them are still active in the sociology area. If you are or want to become once again an active contributor to the sociology content on Wikipedia, please move your name from the inactive to the active list on our roll call.

In other news, we have reactivated the newsletter :) At least, for this announcement. We also have a new, automated to do listing, an active tag and assess project (which has identified about 1,800 sociology articles on Wikipedia, and assessed about 1,3000 of them), and three new userboxes for your self-identification pleasure :) On a final note, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: III (December 2010) edit

Sociology ProjectNews • December 2010
Spreading the meme since August 2006

The Sociology WikiProject third newsletter is out!

According to our April mini-census, we have 15 active members, 6 semi-active ones and 45 inactive. Out of those, 4 active, 3 semi-active and 1 inactive members have added themselves to corresponding categories since the mini-census. The next one is planned, roughly, for sometime next year. The membership list has been kept since 2004.

On that note, nobody has ever studied WikiProjects from the sociological perspective... if you are interesting in researching Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Research and wiki-research-l listerv.

Moving from research to teaching, did you know that many teachers and instructors are teaching classes with Wikipedia? This idea is getting support from the Wikimedia Foundation, and some really useful tools have been created recently. I have experience with that, having taught several undergad classes, so feel free to ask me questions on that!

And as long as I am talking about professional issues, if any of you is going to any sociological conferences, do post that to our project - perhaps other members are going there too?

In other news: the a automated to do listing reported in the April issue went down shortly afterwards, but seems to be on the path to reactivation. We still have an active tag and assess project, and comparing the numbers to the April report, we have identified about 350 more sociology-related articles (from 1,800 to 2,150) and assessed about 100 (from 1,300 to 1,400).

We now have a listing of most popular sociology-related pages. It is updated on the 1st of every month, starting with August, and reports which of our sociology-tagged articles are most frequently read. Of course, GIGO holds true, so after looking at it right now and trying to determine what is our most popular article, my first action was to shake my head and remove Criminal Minds (which, perhaps not too surprisingly, outranks all sociology articles in period tested). Second item I noticed it this month's Industrial Revolution, beating Criminal Minds, that moved from close to 30th position in August/September, to 9th in October and 2nd in November. If you'd like to discuss this or any other trends, please visit WT:SOCIOLOGY!

Finally, with the reactivation of Article Alerts, we are getting our own here. Bookmark that page so you can keep track of sociology related deletion debates, move debates, good and feature article discussions, and more.

Our first task force (Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology/Social movements task force) was created (1 June 2010).

If you have basic or better graphic skills, our projects needs a dedicated barnstar (award) (currently the closest we can get is the Society Barnstar.

As always, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.
