Task force Science fiction for wiki project novels edit

Excuse me, my name is Liberalufp and I will be the new coordinator of the task force. With me as coordinator things will be very different, for one the task force at the moment is run down and only has 10 members. In effort to make this task force a major success and living up to its goals, I will be taking the reins and will be requesting for each one of you to do your assignment I will be assigning you and message me on my talk page when it is done. If you wish not to do the assignment let me know. I am sorry if this is harsh and tyrannical but we have over 4,000 articles that need taking care of. Everything is optional and do not feel pressured. If you have any objections or Questions please message me on my talk page.--Liberalufp (talk) 01:59, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Julius177

Thank you for creating Canadian Food and Allied Workers.

User:Doomsdayer520, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Thank you for this new article. Note that other editors have called for additional citations. This is because the article has large blocks of text with no footnotes, especially in the "Prisoner..." and "Merger... sections. If those statements are verified in sources that are already used elsewhere, there is no problem with repeat footnotes (as already done for the Jordan House source).

Nairn and Hyman, KVP edit

Hi Julius177, I have a question about the History section of Nairn and Hyman, which you wrote. At some point KVP is mentioned, which links to a disambiguation page. Is this Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment? Do you have a source for it? Thanks! Lennart97 (talk) 11:51, 14 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes it is, unfortunately there is no article for the company though I see it appears in the disambiguation. It's mentioned in the same local history sources I drew from for the section, as well as in passing with ones like this article, which mostly deals with the nearby mill in Espanola, not the one in Nairn. This local history is so old it's contemporary with the KVP takeover in the 1960s. Most of the local histories tend to assume the reader knows what KVP stands for. There are a few sources that spell it out though, like this list of Frontier College faculty embedded at different companies, which spells it out as "Kalamazou". The newspaper source spells it out and identifies it specifically as the Michigan-based company. Julius177 (talk) 19:31, 14 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! The sources indeed make it clear which KVP is meant, so I've corrected the link. Lennart97 (talk) 19:57, 14 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Organized labour project edit

Thank you for joining the Organized Labour project. I've been a participant in the project since 2006 and am helping with a revival of it. As part this we are introducing a new membership system, which will help with communications among participants. This involves creating a membership file for each participant within your user space (you can see an example of my membership card here: User:Goldsztajn/WikiProjectCards/WikiProject Organized Labour). This system is already in operation within a number of wikiprojects (such as Women in Red and Medicine). You will not have to do anything, myself or someone else from the project will create the relevant file within your userspace. However, I am conscious that it is not polite to change an editor's user space without notice. If I don't hear from you in the negative, I will go ahead with making the change after the 18th of January. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Many thanks for supporting the project, in solidarity, --Goldsztajn (talk) 11:07, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Niagara Falls Park and River Railway edit

Julius, what is the connection between Niagara Falls Park and River Railway and Niagara Falls Transit? Oiyarbepsy (talk) 20:03, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, coverage of the topic is sparse enough that the modern-day local transit system is the most relevant article I was able to find at the time to redirect to. WEGO Niagara Falls Visitor Transportation may be more appropriate, as the NPFRR was mainly a tourist railway. This page explains the context a bit further. Julius177 (talk) 20:29, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I've changed the redirect to Great Gorge Route which seems more appropriate. Julius177 (talk) 20:32, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • That seems like a better target. In the future, it's actually better for our readers to have no link at all compared to a redirect with an article with no information on it. Then at least they know up front. Have a good day, Oiyarbepsy (talk) 21:12, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

George Bowlby edit

Hi Julius177, please do not restore Category:People from Kitchener, Ontario there is already a category called Category:Mayors of Kitchener, Ontario. We don't want double categorization according to the Wikipedia guidelines for double categorization because it is already in sucategories. It's best to discuss first. Remember do not put Category:People from Kitchener, Ontario at the George Bowlby article but Category:Mayors of Kitchener, Ontario will be kept. I hope you will remember do not people from when George Bowlby was mayor. Do your best. OK? Thanks! 2001:569:74D2:A800:F957:84C0:CA3C:1476 (talk) 02:16, 15 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I agree with your assessment regarding George Bowlby, which is why I reverted my edit after accidentally re-adding the category in the process of making other edits to the article. I appreciate your talking the time to talk with me about this as it seems that it is a misunderstanding. However, in reviewing your contribution history, I would advise more care in some editing choices. For example, I notice that you have many edits removing people from "People from x" categories. While this may be primarily associated with birthplaces, under WP:COP-PLACE, this category type relates to residence as well as birthplace, and it is often useful to categorize people with places they are strongly associated with, even if they were not born there. This relates to occupational-locational categories such as Category:Mayors of Kitchener, Ontario, because these people are strongly associated with the place even if they were not born there (as, indeed, some of them weren't). It also allows for greater semantic distinction, such as for an American-born soccer player who grew up in Budapest, who would qualify for, e.g., Category:American soccer players (a nationality) and Category:Footballers from Budapest‎ (a place of notable residence). Depending on the person, both could potentially be very meaningful in encyclopedic coverage for them. If you feel like existing categories do not accurately capture an individual I would suggest creating hybrid or subcategories rather than simply removing them and leaving the article without either a more specific or more relevant replacement. With all this info, we could in theory start work on List of former Via Rail stations. Note that the first VIA timetable did not include Canadian Pacific, so I have also linked Canadian Pacific's last passenger timetable here. Cards84664 12:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cards84664, that's the mother lode all right. Great find! Mackensen (talk) 15:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Quite a find indeed. This should help with one of my goals of (at least with some station and other articles) summarizing service levels over time in terms of things like tphpd at certain stations, which would give a better sense of historical service levels than some of the vague language that is often used in station articles (e.g. nonspecifically describing a station as historically "busy"). I've come across various CN, CP, and Via timetables over the years but never was able to find an archive this complete, especially for Via. Julius177 (talk) 01:57, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

My only contribution to that article has been to add the pushpin map to the infobox -- I think you might be confused about authorship, as the article is a product of the work of many editors. I agree that there seem to be some grammatical and sentence structure issues. If you feel motivated, I'd suggest correcting them as you see fit. Julius177 (talk) 21:03, 23 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Draper Site, Wendat (Huron) Ancestral Village edit

Hello - I noticed that you moved the above article to Draper site with the explanation: Make shorter (WP:CONCISE, WP:PRECISE): Less awkward title and to conform to archaeological site article title conventions.

If this logic is carried forward, then shouldn't the following articles be moved to shorter titles as well?

- Aurora Site, Wendat (Huron) Ancestral Village

- Mantle Site, Wendat (Huron) Ancestral Village

- Ratcliff Site, Wendat (Huron) Ancestral Village
