Cochrane et. al's paper is reported to be accepted for upcoming publishing in the Journal of Biosocial Science by a number of news sources, including in the NY Times and Economist articles, as well as, for example, this Jewish Journal article. useful information, please find the matching medical journal article

I have been reading the "useful information" you recently added to the AIDS article. Wher do I find the matching medical journal article.

The weakened immune system leaves a sufferer helpless to "opportunistic infections" that healthy patients would typically fight off. Words like "sufferer" and "helpless" seem to lack a NPOV. Also "opportunistic infections" is very 1983! see Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, (formerly known as Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia)

Your statement "Without antiretroviral treatment, once these characteristic infections, called AIDS defining clinical conditions appear, death follows relatively quickly" is not supported by the published research. There was a link to the different survival times for differnet AIDS defining conditions, is is still there?

You claim that "Newer treatments, however, have played a part in delaying the onset of AIDS". What are these treatments and where were they published? The 2005 guidelines say the data is inconclusive - and since 2002 HIV infected people with CD4 above 350 and viral load under 100,000 are not treated.

Also I notice you deleted the link to the Panel on Clinical Practices for Treatment of HIV. September 2002. What was you reason for removing this? Is it not "useful information"?

Sci guy, you left a long message on my talk page about a section I did not insert. The Taiwanese study that antiretroviral treatment decreases HIV transmission needs to be sourced, but the BBC is an adequate temporary source until the journal reference is found.

I've expressed my annoyance before that you constantly seem to be undermining consensus on HIV-related articles. As far as I'm concerned you have already shown your true colours in the reappraisal/Duesberg etc debate, and you don't seem to take sufficient distance to edit in an un-biased fashion. Wikipedia does not operate along true/false lines; all it does is aggregate knowledge and opinions. If 100,000 AIDS researchers link HIV to AIDS, and 100 do not, then numerically the deniers are a 0.1% minority, and Kary Mullis does not count double.

I do agree the Duesberg hypothesis needs mention somewhere on Wikipedia, but as with all other articles tiny POVs do not get mentioned in the article intro, however vociferous their defenders. Similarly, you are not in your right to suppress studies simply because they challenge this minority view.

Dear Dr. Wolff: There is a new user who has chosen the controversial user name of of User:Rabbis for himself. I have just sent him a lengthy message with my concerns and a request that he change this name to avoid confusion with real Rabbis, see User talk:Rabbis#Choose another name please. Perhaps you could help him choose another more appropriate name. This user's few entries have revolved around a vote in support of keeping a controverssial article (about some Jewish clergy meeting with the last Pope) that was eventually deleted [2] downloading a newspaper article (because it mentions a cantor who later met with the Pope, singing at a concert) that is nominated for deletion [3] votes to keep a vanity article at [4] then votes to "undelete" article about anon cantor [5] then threatens "I've discussed the matter with my colleagues, and we are getting the Anti-Defamation League involved now" at Talk:Relations between Catholicism and Judaism#Removed vanity section, then inserts stuff into Relations between Catholicism and Judaism and is reverted twice [6] and [7] Please look into this. User:Cantors vs. real Cantors

Hello again Dr. Wolff: This seems clearly related to the above User:Rabbis only this time my objections have been lodged against User:Cantors for similar reasons, see User talk:Cantors#Choose another name please. This user may be a sockpuppet for User:Rabbis because of a corresposnding pattern and a fixated interest in "Eliezer Kepecs" almost exclusively. User:Cantors' first edit [8] is on 17 May '05, and User:Rabbis was on 5 May '05 [9] . From the start [10], User:Cantors is focused on only one thing "Cantor Kepecs" (himself?), lists the article about himself (?) for "undeletion" [11] and votes to "keep" [12] and [13] two vanity articles that are deleted, inserts and is reverted for interfering with undeletion policy discussions [14], and after placing six (!) Use of Prosaglandin in CHD

Do you know whether PGE is used only in cyanotic heart defects or if it is used in others as well?

That would be great if you could, I only know of it's use in TGA because my daughter has it, I don't know other major CHD's that well...but I am guessing that since the DA is kept open in TGA to allow "red" blood into the body, then that is likely it's purpose in other CHD's as well.

actually my opinion pretty much consists of the erroneous redirect, and the fact there is a bit of ambiguity of if Shavuot includes passover. You removed the article diagnosis from the healthcare category due to a concern about the healthcare category becoming overloaded. This is a fair argument about it being overloaded but I would highlight that there are a number of links you may wish to delete from the healthcare category that seem to be less clearly associated with healthcare than diagnosis. Hi IZAK - I would welcome your input on something that I have proposed at WP:WSS/C (the stub sorting wikiproject). I am largely responsible for the split of geography stubs into separate categories. At the moment, Category:Middle East geography stubs is getting fairly large, and the most obvious split of it is to make a separate category for Israel. BUT - and here is where the problem lies - understandably, several of the stubs could be just as easily stubbed with a template for Palestine, especially if they are to remain NPOV, and especially given the volatile claims to different parts of that troubled region.

I am proposing a category called Category:Israel-Palestine geography stubs, with two separate stub templates {{israel-geo-stub}} and {{palestine-geo-stub}} both leading to it. The resulting stub category would be a subcategory of both Category:Israel and Category:Palestine. It is, quite honestly, the only way I can think of to get around this delicate problem.

If you can think of any better way of working this, I would welcome any suggestions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria#Israel-Palestine. Thanks - Grutness...wha? 10:31, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for being nasty but: Exanta is the first oral DTI, as intravenous direct thrombin inhibitors (made from Hirudo medicinalis, the medical leech) are available for years but due to their narrow therapeutic window not in use very frequent. There was a trial using Melagatran iv (to prevent clot forming during haemodialysis) but in the large european phase III trials in orthopaedic surgery (METHRO II, III, and EXPRESS) it was only used s.c. Converting the prodrug into the drug is performed, as you mentioned out, in the liver but also in nearly all other organs (gut, spleen, lung ..) because the enzymatic family that is responsible therefore is present in all organs in different concentration. However the liver- converting is not the main way and therefore cannot explain the elevation of the liver enzymes.

MGUS

Thanks for adding to the MGUS entry. I had always gathered conversion rates to mulitple myeloma were rather less than "2-3%" p.a.. Were did you get this number from (my, admittedly brief search, could not find a number to back up my local haematologists claim of "about 1-2% p.a."). Secondly you rearranged the order of the sentance about the alternatives for the "U", which is an improvement, but "uncertain" became "unclear" - is this correct ? Hi, I'm a GP in Hoddesdon, Hertforshire, but have previous spent several years doing full-time GP locuming across North London. Much into medical computing and how badly it is done. Have intranet site at work (yet to get rest of staff into it) for helpsheets, huge directory of useful contact numbers and collection of management tit-bits gleened over several years from consultants. Per your questions: (1) "Shall we move it to a shorter name?" I wouldn't have a problem with moving it to a shorter name. I've seen lots of arguments about whether something was a disease or a disorder, and my goal was just to sidestep the argument by explictly incorporating both elements into the name. But if you wanted to move it to a new name, I wouldn't object. (2) "In the boxes you placed, each one says hypoglycemia". I apologize for my error. I was copying over the template, and forgot to substitute the name. It looks like you have already fixed this, and I thank you for doing so. (3) "Are we using ICD-9 codes (as you have done) or ICD-10 ones?" I see you have updated the template already, so that issue appears moot. I'll try to create a page List of ICD-10 codes, parallel to List of ICD-9 codes. Before I do so, do you know if 10 is free for us to use, and if there is a good site for us to get these codes? Jewish Polish history issues

Hello Dr. Wolff: Would you care to take a look at the discussions (involving mainly User:Piotrus) at Talk:History of the Jews in Poland#Article division. The article was approaching 90k, and I created a template ({{JewishPolishHistory}}) into which I subdivided and placed all the original contents of the main article leaving it as a lead article for a longer series on Jewish-Polish history. Piotrus' objective was to have only one loooong article and to primarily make it into a "FA" (Featured Article), and I disagree with that focus (...how can you squeeze over 1000 years of history into one "FA" article?) His way would also leave the article as an appendix of Polish history mainly, rather than presenting the topic for what it is as the vast subject of Jewish-Polish history connected to the continuum of Jewish history as well. User:Eliezer's campaign against Gil Student

As you might be aware, Gil Student has written a book arguing against Lubavitch Messianic beliefs. User:Eliezer has now taken up a campaign against him, trying to remove all reference to Student from Wikipedia, including links to relevant sites. Could you look into this issue please? Thanks. Nonsense. I did not object when you removed links to yasharbooks that clearly did not belong. However, some of the links were indeed relevant, and your excuses for removal were clearly bogus. As far as I can tell, the site was linked to in all of four Wikipedia articles. After creating the VfD on Gil Student, you proceeded to delete those four links, on various grounds. Two of the deletions were reasonable, but two were clearly not, despite your misuse of policy (or use of non-policy) as a justification. And your mention of the Talmud article (Student and the links have nothing to do with the article) is more evidence that this is simply another example of WP:POINT. Jayjg, which links were relevant? the one in open source? the regulars there agree with me that it is not notable, the only one that upon further consideration might agree is the Judaism and Evolution, which I deleted because it was a commercial link, and you say that it is nonetheless relevant. And in regards to the Talmud article, Student is mentioned there as an "expert on exposing anti-Talmud accusations" and if I was out to get him, I would have removed this, however I am not out to get him, I am just removing the links that a certain person spammed all over Wikipedia for him. And regarding his wikipedia page, he himself admits that he isn't notable enough to have it, As do 90% of other people on wikipedia, (based on the votes and comments there). As for WP:POINT, you seem to be the one violating it, because when you see that your desires to keep Gil Student around wikipedia even in places that he doesn't belong, you start posting messages to peoples talk pages saying that I am on an anti student campaign, and reverting any changes with the same message. --Eliezer 7 July 2005 01:55 (UTC)

I understand your concerns, but isn't it a bit of cutting off our nose to spite our collective faces to ignore the fact that someone has thrown us a huge pile of links into a well researched database? I think the "spammer" meant well, but was obviously going about it the wrong way. Rather than rewarding, I think we're leading by example if we re-insert the links in a clean and well documented way. The Mayo Clinic isn't a fly-by-night clickfarm looking for traffic, and quite frankly many of these WP articles are in horrible repair and could use the reference material for future edits.

Bottom line: would you object to my project in strong enough terms that I would actively be pissing you off by proceding, or can I go ahead? I'm not looking to become the bad guy here, just contribute. -Harmil 21:42, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Scratch all of the above. I appologize, and retract my project. I just noticed that the Mayo pages have doubleclick ads on them to a corporate sponsor.
