Opening of Discussion

I am currently running what amounts to a one-man task force covering Illinois Public Community Colleges, which encompasses 48 colleges, and three special districts. I am working to get all of the articles i am working on or plan to work on to at least Good Article status. As a part of this, I have developed the templates on the page to accompany Illinois Public Community College Pages. I would like to have anyone that can offer input and opinion to vote if possible which of the designs you think best break down the list. All input is welcome. Questions

1. Are the city colleges of Chicago operated and funded by the city, or are they part of the regular state community college system? (I think it makes a difference in how they are categorized.) --Orlady (talk) 19:00, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. Yes, the City of Chicago funds the City Colleges of Chicago, such as Malcolm X College, in the same manner Counties do with respective community colleges, such as McDonough County, Illinois funds a portion of Spoon River College. This is why I separated them in the first and second iterations of the template. In the third, I simply merged together all Chicago Metro Area colleges. When I saw your statement indicating that Illinois counties also provide funding for community colleges, I was at a loss to know how to proceed. Apparently this is not a situation like that in New York state, where NYC has its own city college system. --Orlady (talk) 23:35, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

NYC is different given CNYU is both two-year and four-year. the Colleges of Chicago are two year only. They are the only city that funds colleges directly in Illinois. I saw your post on the WikiProject Universities talk page. Here's a copy of my response from there:

I like Set 2 the most. It provides enough geographic reference without becoming overly complicated. Set 1 seems to have too many divisions while Set 3 lumps together colleges based solely upon whether or not its in Chicago. However, the "Special College Districts" in Set 1 does look interesting.

Pick a B-class and a Start-class article from your template that you'd like some help with. One of them might end up nominated for a future Collaboration of the Month... ;)

I think I fully agree with Mabeenot here. Use set 2, but perhaps add the "Special College Districts" from set 1. But set 1 is okay too. Set 3 is too lumped together.

(Disclaimer: I live in Sweden, Europe, so I know nothing about US schools, apart from the probably very unrealistic stuff we see in Hollywood high-school comedies. I want cheerleaders running around my school yard in short skirts too! :))
