SWORD

Thanks for putting this article together. I've made a few comments on the articles talk page and I welcome your input. Just so you are aware I am moving the article to S.W.O.R.D. (The Saint) in order to be consistent with other articles on The Saint, plus SWORD only appeared in one Saint book and TV episode and wasn't a recurring group. 23skidoo 15:15, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

No, as you can see, it still has a diambiguation element to the title. But WP:STYLE says article titles do not include quotation marks, plus it's inaccurate to use the word "novels" since the group appeared only once. So to say (The Saint) is the best way to go about this, plus it is consistent with other disambiguated article titles such as Getaway (The Saint). I have adjusted all articles accordingly. I think the WP:STYLE jury is presently out as to whether acronym titles should be presented like S.W.O.R.D. or like SWORD. Teal

I intend to do an article on him just as I did one for Patricia Holm, however I am still reading the books so I don't have enough information to start one yet. It would be Claud Eustace Teal as WP:STYLE says to leave titles out of article namespace. If you're familiar enough with the character to start up an article, please do so and I'll fill in what I know. The only other Saint character who probably deserves his own article is Hoppy Uniaz, but I've yet to read any of the stories featuring him. 23skidoo 17:09, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Moving articles

Hi, You recently moved Life on Mars to Life on Mars (scientific theory) by copying and pasting the contents of the page. Do not do this. The only allowed way to move an article is via the "Move" button that appears at the top of each article. If a move is not likely to be controversial, go ahead and move using the button. If the move is controversial or the button's function is blocked, the move needs to be discussed first on the talk page or dealt with more formally using the procedure at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Copy/paste moves are not allowed because they mess up the stored history of edits, which is important for protecting Wikipedia from copyright lawsuits.

I am reverting your move, because an objection has been raised. If you still want to do this, raise the issue at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Note though, that the articles you were working on are now disambiguated at Life on Mars (disambiguation), and each of the articles links to that. I suggest that this configuration is better than doing the disambiguation at Life on Mars, because the scientific theory is the primary meaning of the phrase.--Srleffler 04:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

In particular, the only links that should appear on these special pages are the words or phrases that are being disambiguated. The information content is also to be kept to a minimum. More move issues

Please don't change the redirects between Life on Mars and Life on Mars (theory), nor the link to the former on the disambiguation page. The proposal to move the former article to the latter has clear consensus and will go through in a couple of days. In the meantime, it's polite to keep things simple for the admin who closes the move, by keeping all the links pointing to the new location of the article, with a redirect from there to the old location. This makes the move simple, and means nobody has to go through and fix all the links after the page is moved. By changing these links and redirects, you are just making more work for everybody and doing no one any good. --Srleffler 04:16, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

I understand that people often post articles and then flesh them out later. However, it is best to make your article in a sandbox or subpage, and make sure its grammar/spelling are good, it is wikified, and most importantly has references that assert its notability. You should copy and paste your current article into a sandbox. If it does get deleted then you can repost an updated version that is worthy of a Wikipedia article. I want more articles on Wikipedia, but I don't want to include ones that don't have any references or are ambiguously (at best) notable. Getting the article deleted is not the end of the world, it just means that you'll have to come back with something better next time. Tdmg 17:07, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, that's very clear. I think you should add that additional level detail to the article about these items, since such discs are not a common shape of chocolate or fudge. It's a good feeling to properly document these things for the world, perhaps creating the best article anywhere about these things (something Wikipedia is great for). Hi Hotspur! A while ago you moved Paratroopers Brigade to Paratroopers Brigade (IDF), if I recall correctly, saying that it was not to confuse with another army's Paratroopers Brigade. I'm not really sure what you mean by 'romanized text', but I really don't see an issue here. If the airborne brigade of another army is not called Paratroopers Brigade specifically, then there's little chance that someone will stumble upon the article looking for that other brigade. However, in case they will, we can always add a hatnote - provided someone creates articles for other armies' airborne brigades, or a disambiguation page. Right now 'Paratroopers Brigade' redirects to 'Paratroopers Brigade (IDF)' anyway, which kind of defeats the point. -- Ynhockey ^(Talk) 22:38, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I've noticed you've expanded multiple phaleristics articles I've been heavily involved in for the past few years. Firstly, thank you, your input is appreciated and quite valuable, always a pertinent historical development. My only concern is as follows, a lot of the info you include in "historical background" is taken from the intro para at the top of the articles. I used to do the same, I originally created my articles with a simple albeit complete description of the award and then went on to "historical background" or "award history", it looked good and made perfect sense, and it still does. But... After creating and expanding dozens of articles, I began requesting reviews in the hope of upgrading the articles' classes, I was getting a bit frustrated at seeing "START CLASS" or at best "C CLASS" for articles that in my humble opinion, had covered everything short of the molecular structure of the dyes used to colour the ribbon! The many reviewers were almost anonymous, the intros were simply too short, that one big sentence simply didn't cut it, and they suggested incorporating the historical bit in the intro... Hence why most articles where you see me in the article history are structured as such. Have you encountered the same comments? Have you tried to have articles reviewed? I assure you this isn't criticism, I'm delighted somebody with a common interest is improving these articles, I'm just wondering if we share the same frustration... Personally, I've given up trying to get a phaleristics article even close to GOOD ARTICLE, there simply isn't enough "meat" in the subject. Even when including historical data, one has to restrain himself from simply repeating the info contained in the article for that particular event that is already linked in the intro... Sorry, I wasn't clear. I was actually thanking you and also asking for your opinion. Keep large intro paras or go for a "historical background" para with a single description sentence at the beginning of the articles? Like I said, I've given up on any chance of upgrading these articles above C class so... I'll stop merging historical paras into the intro and go back to creating articles exactly in the format you are amending them to. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
