It was reading the ultimate paragraph of this post: [1] that finally convinced me it was time to go, yes, Hans is quite right, I am stuck in a vicious circle and there was no likelihood of things improving.
I told one of the someone the other day that whenever I start a page, it is seized on by others immediately before it's even finished and warring and argument starts; the last page being a prime example (WP-Own is one thing seizing on every edit an editor makes is quite another) the page was locked for days preventing me from properly finishing it - and I can only think of just one other editor here who knows enough to know where the points I was outlining were leading. I have not wanted to touch it since and complete it - too much stress, too much bother and life is too short.
There have been hundreds of other similar incidents and I'm tired of it - I start pages in userspace and then lose interest because I cannot face having to justify every commonly held opinion to some idiotic Randy from Boise and his piled on friends, so the pages are never completed. No doubt, some will be screaming WP-OWN, but that cannot be the excuse to allow pages to sink, be over-simplified or just plain erroneous or misleading. Anyhow, I've always said and believed that If one can't write here, one might as well not be here because all that leaves for me here is posting and opining on the talk pages - and that eventually only leads to further bitterness and we have enough of that here already. In short, it's been made clear to me, that I have no future here. Pity really because I would have made a bloody good Arb :-)
Wikipedia is edited mostly by people who know a little about everything and a lot about nothing, and anyone who knows a lot is considered a danger to the project. That's because the under-educated fear exposure from the over-educated and keep them down and themselves on top - and that is certainly true of many of the Admins and it's a practice which begins at the top of the tree, and know that many on top of that tree will be more than delighted to see the back of me.
Successive Arbcoms have become more and more lack lustre, and the acceptance of the case against Malleus Fatuorum ,in particular the amount and length of permitted spite (evidence - I believe it was called) that was posted against him, is just one more example of the self-satisfied, smug, puritan lynch mob that's allowed and encouraged to rule here. For that the Arbcom, and editors who posted such lengthy vitriol, should be hanging their heads in shame. I hope Malleus and others like him survive because they are a breath of fresh air. However, if nothing changes (and I seriously doubt it will) they'll eventually end up feeling just as I do now - I know of many other editors who are too on the point of going - only the addiction and their friends keep them here. People say that other editors come along, and yes, they do, but for every good new editor who comes along, it seems that ten social climbing, ignorant little would-be admins come too.
So as you will have gathered by now, I am pretty hacked off with the project, so all that remains to say is thanks to all those who have been my friends and supported what I was trying to do here. Never, is a very long time, but I certainly have no plans for returning unless the admin system changes drastically - send me an e-Mail if it does, but I won't be holding my breath. - It used to be fun to write at the beginning, in 2004, wasn't it, Giacomo? A long time ago... Nobody knew either you or me, nobody made it a point of honour to interfere with your pages to the best of their (undeveloped) level of information and sense of style. (I can't imagine why people like to do that now. To be able to put "contributed to Featured Article such-and-such" on their userpage? Or collecting happy memories of the form "pissed off Giano, who does he think he is anyway"?) So we were able to collaborate most idyllically on John Vanbrugh, a subject we happened to have complementary specialist knowledge of — you on his architecture, me on his comedies — and that was how we became friends. Nobody bothered us, or insisted that their own sword-wielding skeletons must be represented in the article, too. Admittedly, and a little unfortunately, nobody knowledgeable came along to help, either, even though we created it right in mainspace! (I don't think we even knew about userspace or sandboxes then, that's how green we were.) But for complete newbies, I still think we managed fine. Wot larks! At the next stage, it turned out that you're vastly more creative and productive than me, and you went right on into a golden age of enriching Wikipedia with countless articles on architecture and 18th-century boxing, a sparkling combination. 8 years! (Bishonen becomes extremely sentimental.) It's very sad that you're leaving. You've left forever a few times, and then returned, and in a way, of course I hope that'll happen this time, too. But in another way not, because I really, really don't see what the attraction would be. All the things that made it fun have dropped away, or been stripped away by … probably … well-meaning Randies in Boise, proactively looking to improve your photos by deleting them, or your style by, well, uh, putting things differently. The Countess of Scrotum (De facto) is perhaps the only amusing thing left for you. :-( Maybe you could leave her behind to roam the site, freezing the vulgar to the marrow and imparting her wit and experience to us all? Anyway, please stay in touch, sweetheart. Nothing in this place has been as much fun for me as your panache and kindness, and, well, explosiveness. Bishonen | talk 21:38, 7 February 2012 (UTC).

Please reconsider
You are the second content editor blessed with a unique talent for writing who has decided to leave the project due to reasons which you have eloquently expressed above. I had some crap tossed into my face last Saturday and I made the decision to boycott Wikipedia for 24 hours last Sunday. My rationale was that if my hard work is not appreciated then I won't bother my arse to give more of it away for free only to have it deprecated. I am back, however, as I refuse to let others dictate my actions. All of us here will feel your loss, Giano, not only on account of your excellent articles, suberb images, and knowledge on architecture, but mostly because the place will be a duller place without you. Like the summer sun suddenly sailing off to hide behind clouds or the music's volume being inexplicably turned down whilst one is boogying away at a wild disco.
