Arutprakasa Vallalar Chidambaram Ramalinga Swamigal

Dear GaneshK,

My new article Arutprakasa Vallalar Chidambaram Ramalinga Swamigal was a complete reconstruction from the old title Jothi Ramalinga Swamigal. For this new title I gave a regular page move option. There are another two articles on Ramalinga swamigal as Vadalur Vallalar and VADALUR VALLALAR. These two articles were in complete cleanup status as the information on those articles was against wikepedia policy. Already one article contained three warning tags. The other one is just a redirect. Thus I manually gave a redirect option on those articles main pages after deleting the contents, but I could not able to do the history merge. Hi Ganeshk! Yes, I can't help but share your happiness on the increased participation from Indian Wikipedians :) Though it's been only little less than 10 months here on Wikipedia, I haven't seen such a response with different activities. I guess some of the good 'ol boys of the school are back to business :)

As far as your options are concerned, they very much excite me. Just the other day, I wrote to Gppande about the points-based contest on his talk page while discussing about the newsletter. I'm sure to join hands with you with this activity. Sure, the Tag & Assess 2008 is helping on one hand with assessing those zillions of unassessed Indian articles, but an activity like points based contest following it will help improve those zillion assessed articles to noteworthy status.

I'm game for this contest and it looks like the time is right for working on it. It can be made sure that it is launched just by the time the assessors from Tag & Assess recuperate from the heavy tagging activity.

Field parameter

I agree. We have to collect data on that. Also, I have a plan to manually add fields for articles of some categories like sports-related ones to 'sports', food-related ones to 'food', schools/colleges to 'school' etc. as these categories do not have many articles. Currently, all articles with field parameter defined can be seen from Category:India articles using field parameter. How about starting some of these projects? Which ones you would like to join? Enhancement of the template of WP:ASM

Portal:Current_events/India

Hi Ganesh, as per Portal:Current_events/India User:Rohit nit has been doing a good job updating the news portal on a regular basis. However the main current events portal page at Portal:Current_events/India needs some serious work. For instance, I've suggested him to continue his good work with the news events under "India in this week..." which he has been doing since the past few weeks. Now if the "Calendar" section may be modified suitably, but I was unable to provide him with suggestions because the template is highly confusing. The template also needs a lot of clean-up as well which I was unable to decipher. I must admit, this has been the only wiki template that I wasn't able to understand well. I just read that you created an infobox for the 7/11 bombings in mumbai. I was reading about creating infoboxes today, but I was a bit lost on how and where to save it. Sorry to come again. But I wasn't quite understanding the loading part. I started a "Template: Infobox XXX" and was editing it, but the stuff wasn't coming out. Then I tried the documentation, I didn't understand what to install in there.

Dubai protection

Hi Ganesh, if you have a second, could you please {{sprotect}} Dubai for me? It has become a constant target of vandals and has been vandalized at least 22 times within the past month. There have been a limited number of constructive anon edits to the article, but the vast majority have been vandal attacks. Hi Ganesh, thanks for your input and for the link. We've countered the issue so far through tools like Huggle. Hopefully, this will keep the article relatively clean in the short run. Maybe we can wait a little longer to build up some support data on anon vandal frequency and make the case, if simple rollbacks don't seem to be working at that point. Ganeshbot use

Hi Ganesh, I was wondering if your bot could do the following for Wikproject Mumbai.

1. Scan all articles on Wikipedia.
2. Search for the term "Mumbai" or "Bombay" within the first 25 words of the lead.
3. If there is a match, then list it.

After the list is generated, we could then manually weed out false positives. After that is done we could probably tag articles with WP:MUM at a much faster rate. Let me know. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:04, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Cool, that filters it down. I went through those records and found some additional categories that could be filtered down:

• People from Mumbai
• Companies based in Mumbai
• University of Mumbai alumni
• Companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (removed this linkage to Mumbai)

For the articles in the above three cases, they would need to be evaluated on a case-to-case basis. Some examples include a Cardinal born in Mumbai and served in Karachi, a Pakistani poet born in Mumbai, but left soon after. If this filter can be done, all the remaining articles could be automatically slapped with mumbai=yes in the WP:India template. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Need Help

I created WP 1.0 categories ( with intersection) with the category plugin for Wikipedia:WikiProject Amiga which is a child of WP:COMPUTING. {{WikiProject Computing}} is the banner and |amiga=yes|amiga-importance= is the parameter. I used Template:WikiProject Computing/Categories which is same code for Template:WP India/Categories

This is used in {{WikiProject Computing}} similar to {{WP India}}.

Template:WikiProject Computing/Categories is not working properly for importance parameter... Even if you have

The issue is it populates the importance category only if the |class= is non empty.

I tried this {{WikiProject Computing|class=Stub|importance=|amiga=yes|amiga-importance=low}} and it worked. Is it possible to make it populated even if |class= is empty ? -- Tinu Cherian - 06:08, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
