Double redirect bot edit

Technically, my bot is authorized to fix double redirects. It's just that there's a bunch of bots out there that beat me to it. I'm going to see if I can whip out my bot and sic it on some double redirects. MESSEDROCKER 04:19, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removing sections from Windows vs Linux edit

I was a little over-ambitious in some of the recent major edits. I think I'll leave well enough alone and move on to fixing the remaining parts of the article that are thus far untouched. Then I'll start a comparison of Linux and UNIX, and maybe help out the guys on Comparison of Windows and Mac OS X. It needs a lot of help as well. Hendrixski 20:56, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I rewrote large parts of that article, but the edits did not last. There appears to be a basic confusion on the purpose of it and the best way to cover such a controversial topic. Unfortunately, a great deal of quality work is thrown away every time someone decides to do an 'overhaul'. As such, I do not feel the article merits additional time investment, and I have no plans to contribute further. Best of luck to the rest of you. Regards, Dave Indech 17:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I do find it interesting. It's just an inefficient use of time. Dave Indech 12:44, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

FAR Protocols edit

When you submit an article toWikipedia:Featured article review, as you did with Anne of Great Britain, please consider messaging the concerned projects and users, as written in the submitting instructions. I have done this for you in this case, but when many are submitted on the same day, it creates a lot of work for me. Thanks, Jeffpw 09:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you so very much for the template!!! That's even better than a Barnstar, in my book! Truly, that's one of the nicest things anybody has ever done for me here! It's sincerely appreciated. And thankas for pointing out you didn't submit it--there were 3 submissions, and 14 people who needed to be contacted yesterday, so I guess I didn't look through the comments carefully enough, due to the issues referred to in my shiny new template you made for me. :-) Jeffpw 09:41, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bishzilla edit

Yes, I noticed. At RFA I do check userpages before I vote. No reason has been given as to why the sockpuppet needs the tools as well. Moreschi Deletion! 08:54, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

And please get rid of the new messages bar at the top, it's very annoying and somewhat rude. The Bishzilla thing isn't even faintly amusing, unlike my prank at ANI yesterday. Moreschi Deletion! 09:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:User article ban edit

I have reverted your edits to Template:User article ban. That template applies to many users and is used on other articles besides the ones you applied it to. Please do not add your own signature inside a template. To properly use the template, it must be substituted. You have also applied the date paramenter incorrectly. Most of the article bans are indefinite, but you seem also to have applied the ban to more articles than are documented at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Instantnood 2 and Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Instantnood 3. in Please go back through the list of articles you put this on and fix it, so I don;t have to. Thanks you. Thatcher131 12:57, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

shared source or closed source? edit

Hey. I've been reading a little bit about "shared source" lately, and I was hoping you could explain how Windows is "the most prominent shared source operating system". Shared source is not the default license on Windows, it is a licensing option only available to a small number of organizations who are approved by Microsoft. Also Windows is the ONLY operating system that has the option of a shared source license. Just a question of semantics. I would like to have "shared source" mentioned throughout the article though. I think it's important information that would help people discover the options available to them in Windows. Hendrixski 17:52, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I made a correction that should meet halfway. I split it into two sentences so that shared source is not taken out of context. It's not enough though, shared source should be mentioned elsewhere in the article as well. I think it would be helpful to anyone reading the page.Hendrixski 14:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Whee" as an edit summary edit

Your use of "whee" or "wheee" as an edit summary is not informative and creates the appearance that you are a vandal. Although the content of your edits does not appear to be vandalism. I suggest that you try providing a more meaningful edit summaries. Also, I took the liberty of removing the confusing indication that the reader of this page has a new message. Modes on IRC edit

On March 18, you edited the modes table on Internet Relay Chat and moved voice and operator from the right column ("Channel modes") to the left column ("User modes"). I'm sorry to say that this is not correct. These are channel modes, even though they affect single users (just like the channel mode +b (ban) does). If you want to give voice to a user, you do "mode #channel +v nickname", not "mode nickname +v" as you would do for a user mode. The user mode +o is for IRC operators, while the channel mode +o is for channel ops. Compare RFC 1459, sections 4.2.3.1 and 4.2.3.2. --Betterworld 01:51, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

IP auditing edit

Checkuser access is given only arbcom members and stewards, current and former. Becoming an arbitrator alone is hard to achieve, since people don't request them. Rather the Arbcom requests members they need to expand. BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, contribs, odometer) 05:18, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Chinese edit

Thanks for quick response to my question on Chinese. I use Windows XP and even after installing the East Asian language character set such that Chinese displays correctly on my screen, the sets themselves in the Windows character map (there are two: traditional and simplified Chinese) still display various symbols and signs, but not Chinese. That, of course, would be impossible because there are thousands of Chinese logographs. I think there is a numeric system used in conjunction with the character set. If I have a hand written Chinese character, there is way to input a number to produce that character on the screen. Does that sound right? If not, I'm sorry to trouble you and I thank you again for your reply. Jeffmatt 10:39, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Link that is against Wiki's rules edit

A link that has already been removed once has been replaced under a different phrase (which is misleading and largely false) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folkestone as "Online Community Featuring Photographs". As I am involved with another project relating to the town I am flagging it up instead of dealing with it myself as I don't want to show bias. EuphrasiePontmercy 18:37, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kapo edit

Because you created confusion Kapo/Capo you didn't notice, like here (if it was your real intention, I seriously disagree). I was not only reverting, I was fixing some other problems as well. Also, some of your edits are unnecessary: a disambiguation page does not always has the name "XXX (disambiguation)". See WP:DAB#Page naming conventions. In our case there is no English word "Kapo" that undisputely must be at the title Kapo. Finally, the "otheruses" template is very rarely placed on pages titled "XX (yyy)". `'юзырь:mikka 05:59, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

"reverted my links to the disambiguation page without adding new": See above "Finally...". If you means something else, please tell me which page you are talking about. `'юзырь:mikka 01:27, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
