Basic facts and article issues edit

  • Denise Amber Lee was murdered by Michael King on January 17, 2008; the crime followed his kidnapping and raping her earlier in the day.
    • Correct and easily sourced
  • Lee and several others had attempted to call for help through the 9-1-1 system but there was a lack of communication and the police and other emergency services arrived too late.
    • Correct and easily sourced but needs clarification (how was there a lack of communication?)
  • At least four 911 calls were made, one by Lee herself from her abductor's phone and one from a witness, Jane Kowalski, the latter giving a detailed account of events as they unfolded before her.
    • Actually five by five different callers including the victim.   Done in lead;   Not done in other sections (see below)

    • Essentially correct but text needs a massive rewrite so it does not look like a witness statement but is rather an encyclopedic account of events

    • The facts need to be massively expansed upon: enormous amounts of work have been done both by the family and the authorities to address the various failings, In particular:

      • Former is voluntary; latter would seek to make certification and training mandatory for all 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers in FL
      • New section needed to discuss these developments
    2. Denise Amber Lee Foundation
      • Clear but needs minor copyediting and rewording
    3. Sponsorship of same by Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice
      • Needs adding and citing as an important fact
    4. Parallel developments in other countries/states etc
      • Need looking into and adding if relevent. Eg, there was a similar situation in Australia recently
  • Denise Amber Lee bio
    • Nathaniel Alan Lee (but probably stick with Nathan Lee for now).   Done Rest needs minor expansion but fine for now
  • Photograph of Lee
    • In hand (need clarification of copyright procedures)

    • Expand if possible

    • Only to be added if Lee's photo is added and only then if deemed appropriate
  • Tags
