Category:Iyers

Well, Iyer is not a jati. A Brahmin is a jati; a kshatriya is a jati; Iyers, Nairs etc. are ethnic groups or communities. Well, by the way, dont we have categories for Parsis, Jews, etc. Doesnt it breed religion-based discrimination of sorts. -Ravichandar84 17:11, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

I request you to stop removing Category:Iyers from Wikipedia articles. I cant understand your motive ehind this. If at all you have any objections to the existence of the category, use proper procedure and apply for page deletion than removing entires. Regards -Ravichandar84 17:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

With regard to the pt ur tring to make, let me adsk you this question: There are categories for Parsis, Jews, Indian Muslims, etc.. Isnt there any chance of a communal riot brewing up in Wikipedia? I guess there is. Besides if a person gives relevant references then i dont really think the affiliation of the person to a particular community wud be a matter of doubt - Ravichandar84 17:42, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

In that case, the category page should be deleted with proper procedure and not blanked as you tried to. Thanks - Ravichandar84 17:44, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok thats ur point of justification. I still think its okay. -Ravichandar84 17:47, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

bn script

I just noticed your post seeking Bengali script for Shamsunnahar Mahmud, and remembered you did the same on my talk page ages back, for Bharat Dev Varma. And, I also remembered, I haven't met your request yet. Well, I used to copy and paste Bengali letters from the Bengali Wikipedia to make Bengali names, which I can't do anymore because of some font support thing on my PC. But, I have a brilliant idea here. I am starting a Bengali script needed section on the Bangladesh Wikiproject. You can post your requests there. There are quite a few Bangladeshi editors who are arduously adding Bengali script to all Bangladesh related articles. May be they can help you with this. :) Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:41, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Iyer

Friend it would be great if you could review this article on Iyers. It was earlier evaluated by someone who had assigned a B-grade. However, it was so long ago and since then, the reference links have nearly doubled. I have worked up the page extensively quoting Brahmin as well as anti-Brahmin sources. So you will observe that the article abides by neutrality. I've also submitted this article for peer-review as I believe that the article is certainly good enough for a higher grade. However, the person who had evaluated it took it personally and saw to it that the article isnt considered for a higher grade. You will observe this from the comments section of the 'Peer review requests' page. Unfortunately, Wikipedia has become a place for individuals to display their favoritism or personal prejudice. It would great if u cud step in and help in. Thanks --

Indian religions

I know that the talk page at Indian religions is probably the largest in wikipedia, but I sincerely request your assistance in countering repeat reverts of AnishShah19 who claims that Jainism stretched back to the Indus Valley civilization. He concludes that the Vedic tradition was parallel to Jainism and sramana.

Just browse through the page in 10 minutes you'll get his line of discussion (Harappan rishabha seals, naked munis described in Vedas and the standing posture of some Indus valley seals ). I'm in dire need of support from co-religionists too (he too is one, but astray). Indian_Air_Force (IAF) (talk) 16:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Articles on Indian parties

Hi. I'd like to ask a question. It appears almost impossible to lift any article on Indian political parties to FA status. In articles such the ones on BJP, INC, CPI(M) and Shiv Sena, repeatedly get dragged down in quality as opponents of these parties use the wikiarticles as their own soapboxes. Would it be possible to work out a joint consensus on how to relate to inclusion/non-inclusion of allegations, that could be applied to articles on all major Indian parties? Perhaps drafting an essay? --Soman (talk) 21:13, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer. I'll get back to you if a produce a proposal. I had also contact Hornplease on this, but he seems to have dropped out from wiki. Susenghphaa

I have reverted your edits. A succeeding king was the first to recognize a Hindu guru. Even then, the Ahom kings did not become Hindu kings in the sense that they maintained their original religion and maintained the priesthood of that religion. This they did till the end, in 1826. In the early 18th century, a few kings came under the influence of saktas, and persecuted the Mahapuruxiyas. So a Hindu vs non-Hindu discourse of the period does not sit easily with history of the Ahom kingdom---irrespective of what random references in assorted history books tell you. Chaipau (talk) 03:19, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

My source is Padmeshwar Gogoi (1968) The Tai and the Tai Kingdoms, an authoritative account of Ahom kingdom, among others. I am reverting your edits and restoring it to its original version. Please do not revert. The situation in not like the Manipuri king, when he forced his kingdom to convert, and the Hinduism became the state religion. In the Ahom kingdom, the king kept the percepts of different religious sects happy, or played one against the others. The only constant influence was the Ahom religion. Again, please do not get carried away by random references. The Ahom kingdom was a very complex kingdom, religion wise. Chaipau (talk) 03:51, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

My Apologies

I misunderstood your motives, although I must insist in the projection of Hinduism rightfully as the religion that does not proselytize among the major world religions bar Judaism. Conversion into it is a disputed issue and the opportunity cost of putting a few people off Hinduism due to the accurate comparative description of Hinduisms overall characteristic as a non-proselytizing religion barring the actual events you have mentioned which are rare, is fine by everyone I would have thought.Nambo (talk) 07:27, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Poverty in India Image

Beggar in Bodhgaya

There is a discussion going on regarding whether or not the following image should be a part of the Poverty in India page. Most Poverty in *Country* pages do not have any images, at most 1. User:Otolemur crassicaudatus has brought many images showing extreme poverty in India and has tried to mislead people into thinking this is the way a majority of poor Indians live. There is a vote in which your input would be appreciated. You can find this discussion here

I feel that the the Bodhgaya Beggar image does not represent poverty in India correctly because:

  • The beggar in Bodhgaya image does not accurately depict poor people in India because they do not look like this. This man is an exception. To say that this man represents all poor people in India is very wrong. A small minority of Indias poor are disabled. Most living under the poverty line work long hours fishing, farming or as construction workers. This picture shows a man whose legs have been broken. Unless a majority of India's or even a fraction of the poor have legs like this, the image is irrelevant and undue to the poverty in india page.
  • Poverty and Disability are not connected in any way. There are thousands of super rich people who are disabled.
  • There are 11 country articles on poverty
  • This user is being uncivil and unyielding. This user has tried to have my user page deleted because it said America is priceless!
  • This image is being used by User:Otolemur crassicaudatus to display his dislike of India and to mislead people into thinking that this is the plight of millions of poor Indians. This user has often added images showing extreme poverty to many India relating articles.[3] Even though this user knows that poverty is present in every country and that extreme poverty is not a fair representation of the Indian economy, this user has previously tried to add an image of children washing their clothes in a mud puddle to the economy section of the India page. This user has added this image to the poverty section of the Economy of India page, when a graph showing poverty would make more sense.
  • WP:Undue says:
We should not attempt to represent a dispute as if a view held by a small minority deserved as much attention as a majority view. Views that are held by a tiny minority should not be represented except in articles devoted to those views. To give undue weight to a significant-minority view, or to include a tiny-minority view, might be misleading as to the shape of the dispute.

This can be applied to this because a very tiny fraction of poor people in India are disabled. Most work very hard trying to make a living for themselves. This image is misleading. Nikkul (talk) 02:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Uncivil edit summaries and comments

Your edits to Hindu Forum of Britain were edit warring, and some of your edit summaries [4] and [5] were uncivil personal attacks in violation of Wikipedia policy. Please tone it down and stop making threats and attacking people. Thank you. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 04:08, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Did it ever occur to you that attacking a Wikipedia administrator on their user talk page might not be a good idea?
You have not made the case, or tried to argue the case, that any single edit you've reverted in the last couple of days constituted libel or was untrue. You've just insulted people and just reverted the edits. If you continue along this path you will be blocked shortly.
Use talk pages or at least edit summaries that are accurate and sufficient for people to understand what your point is, and edit in a more civil fashion, please. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 04:19, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Baka, you just managed to squeeze past an ArbCom remedy. Consider asking for intervention from uninvolved administrators or editors in the future before edit warring. Thanks, Nishkid64 (talk) 05:16, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Shobhit vishnoi, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Shobhit vishnoi is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

Ganesha

Hi Baka, I reverted your recent edit to the lead of this article, and thought I'd stop by to explain the reason.

  • The mention of Ganapati in the RV has been discussed in the article itself (see Ganesh#Vedic and epic literature) and the Michael's reference you added also supports the scholarly consensus that the two references to "Ganapati" in RV refer to Brahmanasapati and Indra respectively, and not to Ganesha.
  • There is no doubt that theriomorphic images of elephant-faced man appeared as early as 2c BC in India; however most scholarly sources (eg. Krishan; Narain) say that these depictions were independent of the later emergence of Ganesha. Ganesha#Possible influences discusses this briefly (along with the "Mythical Animals in Indian Art" that you had helpfully added earlier) although we have to yet streamline the specific language.

Both these issues are under discussion on the article Talk page and your input would be valued. Btw, we are planning to nominate the article for FAC soon (only the second possible FA of and by the Hinduism project, after Adi Shankaracharya !) and it would be great if you could read through it and provide feedback. RSS

Hi, I'd advise you to read reasons cited for changes rather than quickly hitting revert on the RSS page. I have pointed out, very clearly, lack of citation in the socail activities area. I'm copying this here since you obviously haven't bothered to read them. Hope this is reason enough to remove the line - numerous social, service charity (sic), and relief works,"

I dissected the Social Activities section and here are a few changes I was forced to make-

The article from which these details are sourced very clearly explain that the Sewa Bhararti "was ready for the mission and preparing to send relief material to the affected areas". It does not say what or whether any aid was actually given. Also collaboration with the CBCI is misinterpreted.
  • In 2006, RSS participated in relief efforts to provide basic necessities such as food, milk and potable water to the people of Surat, Gujarat who were affected by massive floods in the region
Here the source was The Organiser, a pro RSS mouthpiece. Not reliable by any means.
The two sources are just links to news articles on the disasters. Not verifiable, therfore invalid.

Aum

Hi Baka. Since you've done a lot of work on Hinduism in South East Asia and elsewhere, I thought I'd address this question to you. Essentially, we don't at the moment have an image showing the traditional way of writing "Om" in the Balinese script, and I was wondering if you had any good sources which show how this is done. I have had this file on my computer for a good while, but I don't remember where I got it from. -- Arvind 15:56, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Bakajee

I think this user is very new and deserve the sympathy of the community of wikipedians. We should try to facilitate him in his editing adventures and see that he survives here. I have given him some support - have a look. It is really funny that some people think that wikipedia is a dustbin where they can vomit whatever they desire! Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 02:32, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

My comments don't include a number of established and old wikipedians whom I do believe the community has give an implicit right to vomit and piss wherever they may wish! They can comfortably litter around the place. My best regards to them all. --Bhadani (talk) 02:36, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Luh Ketut Suryani

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Luh Ketut Suryani, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. — Indon (reply) — 09:43, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Rizwanur conversion?

The source says, that Rizwanur wrote in the letter dated 19th September that, "...that I will have to convert to Hinduism, to which I agreed,". He died on 22 September.

Very clear. He agreed to convert. But he did not convert. Had he been converted, there would have been documents (affidavit or something similar) proving the conversion, also the name would probably have been different. And that news bit would been easily available in the media, given the media attention the case has received.

So I think you are over-estimating/extrapolating in this particular case. There is no proof that Rizwanur had converted. So, I am removing that bit from the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 02:11, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Little context in Rukhsana Sultana

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Rukhsana Sultana, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
