Bonnie Hammer is the President of NBC Universal Cable. Prior to this, she had been President of the U.S. cable channel SyFy since 2001 and of the USA Network since 2004 (both networks are owned by NBC Universal). She joined USA as a programming executive in 1989 and has held a number of positions at both companies since then. Hammer first established herself professionally in New York as a programming executive at Lifetime Television, where she oversaw production of an award-winning series of documentaries.

She is a 1971 graduate of Boston University College of Communication; she also earned a master's degree in Media Technology from the University's School of Education in 1975. She launched her career in television at WGBH, the public television station in Boston, where she produced the critically-acclaimed series This Old House and ZOOM. She later executive-produced Good Day! for Boston's ABC affiliate, WCVB.

At this station she worked on the children's show called Infinity Factory, where one of her jobs invovled scooping up excrement from one of the show's costars, a sheepdog. In march 2009, the network had attained its 11th straight quarter as the United States' top-rated cable outlet. averaging upwards of 3.2 million viewers in prime time. Since taking over the channel in 2004, the network has scored hits with top rated shows such as Burn Notice, psych, and In Plain Sight. [4]

USA Network, along with CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, and telemundo, are controlled by General Electric's NBC Universal. Of all the NBC Universal properties, including both NBC and Universal studio, USA has became the largest profit earner recently. In 2008, USA had appromately $1 billion dollars in profits.[5]
