During my ongoing research into the means that some corporations use to determine notable records in their statistics, I found that, in some cases, the results from such methods differ substantially from other facts about the relevant material. Such is the dispute that I find need to discuss concerning Billboard Magazine's determination method for the age to be cited in the statistic for the Youngest Person to Write, Produce and Perform a Number-One Song on the Hot 100.

In the spring of 1987, Deborah Ann Gibson (born August 31, 1970, Brooklyn, New York, USA) produced a track for the Dream Tour 1987 that would eventually become the A-side of a single: "Foolish Beat," released April 1988 on Atlantic Records Catalog Numbers 7-89109 (7" vinyl) and 89109-4 (Compact Cassette). At the time Atlantic 89109 was released for sale, Gibson had reached 17 years 7 months; however, she was in the range of 16 years 6–9 months at the time she recorded not only "Foolish Beat" but also "Shake Your Love" and "Fallen Angel" at Z Recording Studio, the recording facility owned and operated by producer Fred Zarr and office for BiZarr Music, Inc. As of this writing (viz., 06:15, 4 July 2008 (UTC) ), I still have not received solid data on the date(s) of the recording session for "Foolish Beat," a needful Exhibit for purposes of this Discussion.

During my initial work to improve the Article Debbie Gibson, a major dispute arose over the factual accuracy of a book I was using for background: Randi Reisfeld, Debbie Gibson: Electric Star! (Bantam, 1989). Reisfeld described some basics concerning the workup for the Dream Tour 1987; but these data had to be deleted due to a challenge from the fan magazine Between the Lines, a publication of Deb.org; the Reisfeld book's factual reliability was found wanting.

In September 2007, DeAndre Ramone Way (born July 28, 1990, Chicago, Illinois, USA) reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 with the single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" (label and single catalog number pending as of 04:35, 17 July 2008 (UTC) ), released May 2, 2007. Date(s) of the recording session are pending for this Exhibit.
