Urban districts of Sweden
Urban districts are subdivisions of the municipalities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. In Swedish, they are known as stadsdelsnämndsområden in Stockholm ( urban district board areas) and stadsdelar (literally city parts) in Gothenburg and Malmö. Occasionally, they are incorrectly referred to as boroughs in English. Urban districts form administrative units within the larger urban area or municipality, with boards that are responsible for the local area.
Urban districts are responsible for kindergartens, schools, and geriatric care within their geographical areas, as well as local cultural and recreational activities.
