Ultra-triathlon

Ultra-Triathlon is Triathlon, involving swimming, cycling and running.

It is commonly misunderstood that an Ultra Distance Triathlon is anything longer than an Ironman. The best way to clear up the confusion is to say that all "Ironmans" are Ultras - but not all ultras are Ironmans.

The difference lies in the fact that "Ironman" is a brand. Ironman is a company that puts on ultra triathlons. They just happen to be the company that everyone knows. There are other companies that put on Ultras also. There is the REV3 series, the Challenge Series and many independent organizations that hold local Ultra Distance triathlons.

An Ultra distance triathlon is any triathlon covering a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run (aka - marathon) [1] The other common distances are Triple, Quadruple, Quintuple and Deca Ironman.[2]
